Is anyone else scaried that they may lose too much weight?
Hi all...
I know I am a little different than most of you in here...I am a revision from a VBG to an RNY. I have lost 100 lbs so far...and I am down to 143 lbs.( I am 5 foot 7.5 inches). I was exercising 5-7 days a week and dropped down to 2-4 times a week due to the rapid weight loss I was experiencing. Ok...this might not seem like a problem to you guys but I am eating usually 5-7 small meals a day and drink my water faithfully, doing my protein faithfully and also my vitamins, but I am getting a little nervous about losing too much weight.I would like to get down to 135 and stay there but it seems my body is still losing fairly rapidly at times.
Is anyone else scaried that they might lose too much weight and if so how are you adjusting your caloric intake? Are you cutting out exercising?
Thanks....
Hugs,
Dawn

Hi Dawn, most of here only dream of losing too fast. There may be some who come forward. Hope they do so you can be supported and encouraged.
If you go to the Virginia message board a gal named Natalie who goes by Tinkerbell for her screen name is a wealth of info. She is battling this also and is one of the sweetest most encouraging gals at OH. Wish you the best.
Mary
Thanks Mary....
I will check out Tinkerbell's profile and see what she has to say. I went and seen another WLS friend over the weekend who hadn't seen me in a few months and she was shocked at how little I looked. We compared our weight and I am only 5 lbs smaller than her but because I have tiny hips I actually wear 4 sizes smaller. YIKEES! She did give me hope....saying that she only lost for 12-13 months and then it stopped. She eats want she wants except for high sugar content food and hasn't gained any weight back! Good news for us who are wondering what happens years out from surgery! (she is over 2 years out).
Hugs,
Dawn
I'm not worried since my weight loss seems to be 2 lbs a month these last 2 months and I can spare 2 lbs a month for a few more without problems. I also know my body pretty well... and if I didn't want those 2 lbs coming off... I'd up my carbs. My body is pretty sensitive to them.
I remember being scared that my husband would lose too much. He lost 65 lbs month one and 40 month two. I was freaking. He ended up reaching his goal at 9 months post-op and has happily maintained for 10 months now.
There are people out there who have difficulty stopping the weight loss. Reducing your workouts was probably a good thing. You can keep fit and active on less than 5-7 days a week. Have you added up your daily calories to see what you are taking in? That would probably be a good idea. Another idea might be to see if your gym or a fitness trainer near you do metabolic testing. With that you should be able to see how many calories you burn to get an idea of what it would take to maintain your weight rather than continue to lose.
Good luck!
Kathy
Hi Dawn: Boy, aren't we similar? I had a revision from a VBG that I had in 1988 to a RNY on 5/12/05. I also live in Illinois. I also am at 143lbs.! Unlike you, I am only 5'2. I still need to lose at a minimum, 8lbs more. My doc never gave me a goal. I just picked this number because it puts me in a normal BMI. I have been obese my entire life, so I have really been unsure about where I will stop and be happy. I have weighed as much as 277. At surgery I weighed 247. I realize that a few of the lbs I have on me is sagging skin. I won't go into the gory details, but it is quite a bit of yuck hanging on me. Anyway, enough rambling about me. I would think cutting down on the exercising would help slow the weight loss. It sounds as if you are doing a great job as far as the eating, vitamins, water goes. Maybe a nutritionist could guide you? Best of luck to you on this wonderful journey! I know I look at this second chance as a blessing. Keep up the good work.
Chris
Hi Chris,
Yeah I do believe that this was a great second chance...and even though I had major complications postop, I am determined to the the healthiest I have ever been in all my life. Congrats on the weight loss...and you too keep up the great work.
I seen a WLS friend who is 2+ years out from surgery over the weekend and she was shocked at how tiny I am....even though I only weigh 5 lbs less than her. I am 4-5 sizes smaller....weird how bodies are built different. She did give me hope...she said that she only lost weight for the first 12-13 months and then it suddenly stopped. So, I am hoping that happens in my case also!
I too have been obese since after high school...my highest was over 300 lbs in 1995. It feels great to be smaller than I ever was in high school and have people tell me I look like I am in my twenties instead of approaching that big "40".
Congrats again.....keep working it girl you will get to goal!
Hugs,
Dawn
Dawn,
I doubt I'll have this problem. But, from what I know about nutrition and exercise, I think you are safer to up your calories and not decrease your exercise. Unless you are exercising excessively, are you?
Stay healthy! Keep getting your blood work done. That is the true test as to how you are doing.
Good luck!
