WOW moment
I'm at WalMart looking to buy a pilates dvd. I've never done any form of exercise before in my life (except walking at the gym and a couple of machines). I didn't even know what pilates were, but I wanted something to help me stretch more. The sales lady asks if I need help and I ask her where do you start with these DVDs? She says, "well, since you obviously aren't going to do pilates to loose weight, you'll want this one." Heeeeheeeeheeee - I'm NOT doing pilates to loose weight!!!!!!!!
Hey World - I'm exercising!!! And I'm NOT doing it to loose weight!!!!!!!!
TOTALLY AWESOME!!!!!
(I'm doing them to try and tone up these flabby arms, thighs, and buttucks) - But NOT to loose weight!!!!
Laurie
FYI - when starting pilates. DONT listen to the sales lady at Wal Mart!!!! She was WRONG. I know own an intermediate band dvd but have no idea what the pilates stance is!! heehee

Hey Skinny Minnie!! Pilates is really hard and I am not sure how much is really about stretching versus strengthening your "core" aka stomach. I have done several classes and just can't quite to seem to get it!
I would be apt to suggest a yoga dvd for you. Much more about flexability and stretching. A lot of times you can rent exercise dvds/tapes from the video store or check them out at the library to see what is best for you.
Oh, good idea. I didn't think about renting a dvd first!!!
Yoga I know nothing about as well. But it sounds like what I'm really looking for. the pilates was quite the butt kicker!!!! Funny thing is my 9 year old daughter did everything just fine. Makes me sick. LOL
Checking out the video rental store this afternoon.
Thanks,
Laurie
Do you belong to Netflix? They have an incredible selection of exercise, yoga, sports DVDs. Plus, you might try your local library. Ours has really expanded the number of DVDs they have, and they're free. I've rented DVDs from Netflix to judge whether I should break down and buy them. Saved me a lot of money!

Hi Laurie, I met a lady Sat. who does a pilates video with her hubby every day on the huge exercise balls. Does pilates usually use the exercise balls I wonder ? That might be a better way when it is all so new to ya. Hope your video shop or library has what you're lookin' for.

Mary,
Pilates doesn't require an exercise ball though there are some routines set up to use one.
Joseph Pilates invented the way of exercising your core muscles (trunk/abs) in prison camp during World War II. The prisoners became so fit that they had him work with the camp guards.
Pilates can involve just floor type exercises. They even makes some fancy machines that do the type of exercises.
