Size 10 Levis, Spanx, etc...
I went shopping today (gee, go figure)...
My son was cracking me up... He said "Mom, you never USED to like to go shopping... what's the deal?" and I said, "Well, yeah, it's no fun shopping when all you can find are crappy poor-fitting clothes in various ranges of flower prints..."
So I was just flipping around Target looking around and he's picking things up and saying "How about these?" Size 1 jeans... Size 18 jeans... Little skimpy jr's camis....
Finally, we came to a rack of Levis on sale and I was flipping through and said "Bummer, none in my size" and he said "What about these?" and held up some 10s... I thought, well, eventually, they'll fit, I'm sure, and they're on sale... So I bought them...
When I got home, I couldn't resist the urge to try them on. I figured I could probably get them on but they would cut off circulation to my thighs and make it impossible to breath... Well, guess what? They didn't! They fit PERFECTLY! There's a slight issue with all the tummy skin, though. It has to go SOMEWHERE and apparently it decides to go up and out, so I have to wear a slightly looser shirt, like a sweater or sweatshirt, but the jeans fit like a glove.
I stood there in my bedroom and bawled like a baby... Liv came in and took one look at me and ran to Aaron saying "Mommy's crying!" and he came running to see what was the matter and when I told him why I was crying, he just kind of rolled his eyes and sighed and mumbled something about never understanding women and walked away...
Anyway, sorry for the ramble, just had to share.
Oh - also, in the quest to figure out how to mitigate the skin issue, I came across Spanx (www.spanx.com) - apparently it's very popular. It's like a super light weight but VERY strong panty-hose type material that they make body shapers and such with. A little salty, but there are some women on the main board that rave about it, so I bought a thigh shaper thingy with an extra high waist. I'll let you know if it's worth it when I get it.
Congratulations, Beckster!
I did some shopping today and got myself 3 pairs of pants...size 10 also! I got Dockers. I tried on some 8s too...but a bit snug so 10s it is. I have worn a size 8 jean that my sister gave me, a pair of Lauren pants from her too and a pair of black stretch jeans I got at Macys the other day in an 8 (Bandolino Blu - love the brand and sales are good things!)
It is so hard for me to look through the racks and see size 16s and think wow those look too big for me. What a concept! Rich had to keep reminding me..."You are small now". Doh!
So, I got 3 pairs - two at Kohls...one that sort of look like gray dress pants and one pair that look like beigey linen pants. Stretch pants! Then we went to Costco and they had some too so I got a pair of olive pants without trying them on. They fit perfectly. Rich drooled! LOL!
I have the skin thing and it definitely gets pushed upwards and out of the top of the jeans. Hey, Beck, doesn't it make you wonder what the heck size you would be if the skin was gone???? Huh? Wha? Size 8? Size 6? OMG. OMG. What a very, very strange concept.
Let us know how the spanx thing goes.
I saw the results of someone's plastic surgery today. She had a lower body lift two weeks ago. She still has a couple of drains in her mons area but boy her belly is going to be flat when the swelling goes down and the difference in her arse is amazing. We all piled in the handicapped stall at Paneras (in two shifts since the group was large) to see. LOL!
Another woman, who wasn't there today, just returned from 5-6 weeks in Brazil getting 3 or 4 surgeries done. She had lower body lift and thigh lift in one surgery. Then a brachioplasty (arms) and breast lift with implants and her eyes done. Then she had a face lift done too. I cannot wait to see her next month. She sent a postcard to one of the gals and said that everything went well. Believe it or not, all 3 procedures, airfare and hotel cost her about $16,000. I am NOT joking. And she had a hotel room with a beautiful view of the ocean. The surgeon is one known around the WLS world. All I know is that his name is Dr. Fabio. I forget the last name. He comes to the states once or twice a year and does consults. Others in our support group have had surgery with him. That is one leap of faith to go to a foreign country to have surgery done. Oh and I swear that to have a private duty nurse for 12 hours is something like $50 or something ridiculous like that. Wow!

Yeah, I've been definately thinking about the PS thing lately... My insurance WILL cover some, maybe... Here's what it says about PS in my SPB under Exclusions...
"Those for plastic surgery, reconstructive surgery, cosmetic surgery, or other services and supplies which improve, alter, or enhance appearance, whether or not for psychological or emotional reasons EXCEPT to the extent needed to: (the one that matters) Improve the function of a part of the body that is not a tooth or structure that supports the teeth; and is malformed as a result of a severe birth defect; including harelip, webbed fingers, or toes; or as a direct result of disease; or surgery performed to treat a disease or injury."
What do you think? I'm not really sure how to read it... It's so wordy. I think if I'm reading it right, PS WOULD be covered to "Improve the function of a part of the body that is...malformed as a result of...surgery performed to treat a disease or injury." Does that sound right? If so, I can make the argument that the WLS was a result of the disease of obesity, they approved that, hard to argue... What they consider "improving the function", I'm not sure... We'll see, I think I'm going to have a consult this summer but I want to give it a little more time first, to see how my skin might continue to bounce back. Plus, I'm curious to see if I have any issues with rashes, etc. when it gets hot out. Right now, my tummy skin hangs JUST at the pubic bone - one of the standard requirements for a TT. I figure if I can get that much approved, I will probably chip in and have some other things done at the same time, since the cost will be cheaper with the shared expenses. If not, there's always my 401K and maybe Brazil is an option. I've heard great things about that doc. I've also heard general horror stories about going abroad, as well...
I think that my insurance policy and Rich's reads the same as yours. But mine didn't cover WLS when I had my surgery done so I'm not sure if they would cover plastics due to WLS. I don't have rash issues and not sure that stuff hangs down far enough to qualify.
Better brush up on my spanish...
Maybe if we hit PowerBall tonight. I'll buy you a tummy tuck, 'kay?
Kathy
That just reminded me... We NEVER play Powerball but my MIL called and asked us to buy a few for her and said she'd share it with us...
Maybe we can make a trip together. I've always wanted to go to Brazil and you and I would have a BLAST! We can share a room and cry to each other while we're laying in bed in misery with a BEAUTIFUL view of the beach 5 feet out of our window...
Seven, no offense, but I don't that's POSSIBLE. I mean, okay, I still have some of my pre-WLS clothes, mostly sweats and stuff like that. And I wear them around the house. The ones with elastic still "fit" as in, they don't fall off when I take a step, but they don't really "FIT" if you know what I mean.
Just because you can still WEAR your old pants doesn't mean you aren't actually able to wear a smaller size. Have you tried? Really, have you gone to a store and tried some stuff on? I bet you would be surprised!
