Chicken Still Not My Friend

I tried it again yesterday and again felt awful after chicken breast. Have I finally learned my lesson? Who knows...but I would like to say "No More Chicken For Me!" It makes me feel like someone has tied my pouch and intestines in a knot. I can't even stand the waist band of my loosest PJ pants. I want to throw up but cant. This feeling has lasted anywhere from 1 hour to 24 hours! Anyone else have particular foods that just don't work anymore? Besides Breyers Mint Chocolate chip ice cream...LOL!!!! Jen

Rich says turkey can be an issue for him if it isn't completely fresh and moist. Christmas was fine but other times - it ain't good. For me, I don't really shy away from anything except sugar and breads. I eat the crusty outsides but don't do soft centers. Always liked the crusty parts anyway so it is no sacrifice on my part. Yes. Flour tortillas. Burritos used to be dinner at least once a week at our house. But now I can only eat the insides. Before surgery I LOVED flour tortillas heated and dripping with butter or cold with cinnamon, sugar and butter, or with cheese, etc, etc. Now they send me barfing as soon as they hit the pouch. I don't even try them anymore.

They probably wad up in your pouch since they tend to be gummy. Ick! One of the sacrifices we have to make post-op, I guess. BTW, the way you ate tortillas prior to surgery sounds sinfully good. OMG butter, cinnamon, sugar... yumm... Kathy

Andrea I bought some whole wheat low carb tortillas the other day. I have made a warm deli turkey and cheese wrap that was yummy and just the other day I made a quesadilla with 1 whole wheat tortilla and some shredded cheese. I folded it in half and grilled in on the stove top with some butter!! It was sinful. Added a little salsa..OMG...it may help your buritto thing. Jen

Fortunately (or unfortunately, depending on how you look at it) I don't have any issues with any foods. I used to not be able to drink milk, but in the last few weeks I've not had any problems with it (which saves me money on the lattes! Don't have to do soy anymore!) so that's good. I have a problem with any meats that aren't really moist, but I've had chicken, beef (ground and really moist roast), pork, turkey, all with no problems. I'll say that beef and pork give me the most (but not too bad) problems. I can usually tell within one bite if I'll be okay with something. I've also had bread (both toasted an untoasted), garlic bread, tortillas, pasta, rice, potatoes, all with no problems. I've had fried foods (2 chicken strips from McD's and a couppla fries) and while they sat well, they did make me a bit nauseous as does any high fatty foods after a little bit. Too much sugar alcohol gives me HORRIFIC gas!! And I've not tried sugar as of yet. Well, I guess I did cuz I had chocolate chip cookies, and while they were made with Splenda, I did put semi-sweet chocolate chips in them - so there was a little bit of sugar in them - I had one. So, really, nothing has made me dump or feel really bad unless it's self-induced (like not chewing well enough or eating too fast cuz I'm too hungry) but no particular food. Michelle

Yes... Fruit and raw tomatoes still makes me sick. I think it's the natural sugars. Peanuts also give me a bellyache but not sugar free peanut butter for some reason. I don't eat meat (only seafood), but I rather suspect that chicken might be a problem judging from the way I react to dense or dry salmon. Low carb tortillas are no problem (except that I am not crazy about the taste). Like Michelle, I haven't been having dairy problems whereas before surgery, I was strictly lactose intolerant. Lately, I have been enjoying a large dollop of fat free sour cream on my black bean soup and vegetarian chili!
