Proud, proud owner of a ....
just lovely yet classic "juicy" parathyroid adenoma (tumor). Just confirmed by ultrasound this afternoon!
Yea!
Why am I happy that I will now have to have surgery? Because I've known that this was probably there for a couple of years and all the doctor I saw wanted to do was monitor it. Now, I've lost bone density becuase of it. Parathyroid regulates calcium which is enough of an issue for us post-ops. So, now I can get this bugger removed and worry about my bones like a true post-op and not because of any other reasons.
And...my nodules on my thyroid were noted and the doc said they look completely benign. The endo is going to do a needle biopsy on the biggest one (.8 cm by .5 cm) on Monday to be sure. Since I will have to have surgery to remove my lovely parathyroid gland and adenoma... they might as well make sure I don't need surgery on my thyroid too. One stop shopping, ya know?
I assume I can now get a referral to a surgeon for the parathyroid. Depending on who it is...I'll also be getting my mammogram films to the surgeon for review. With the new family history (sister) of breast cancer - I want to make sure a surgeon views my calcifications just to be safe!
So much medical crap, so little time! But soon to be one less worry!
Kathy
