Working out?

So for the last month+ I have been doing some serious working out. I have been mainly doing weights and some cardio. I just joined a gym, so I know I will be doing it a lot more often. So for the last month my weight has not changed one bit! Is this because I am on a plateau or is this because I am gaining muscle? Has anyone experienced this when they started to work out with weights? When did your weight start changing again?

Most likely you're gaining muscle. Muscle weighs more than fat, when I was very actively working out, I didn't lose as much weight as I THOUGHT I should have (like 10 pounds/month), but man the inches dropped! Right after I quit working out regularly (beginning of Oct) I dropped like 12-15 pounds in like 1-1/2 weeks, BUT it's slowed down considerably since then. I'm going to start going back to the gym regularly this week (hubby should get the okay from his doc after his shoulder injury) and I'm hoping the weight and inches come off again. HTH~ Michelle

I have stalled a few times and have even gained weight (like this week, for example) and I think it is because I am gaining muscle. I know I am developing muscle because I can see and them - I suddenly have biceps, glutes, and pecs! Anyway, you should go by your measurements moreso than the scale to track your progress. Good luck!

Melissa, I am not losing the lbs as fast as I had hoped, but, I've really dropped the inches. I work out 5 to 6 days a week and have done so for about the past 20 weeks, religiously. I do recommend the measuring tape thing. I measure myself when the scale won't budge and I'm always very happy! I've now lost 17 inches off my hips and belly region (which still doesn't seem possible, but, the measuring tape doesn't lie!) Keep it up! Lori 384/263/168

Have you tracked and measured yourself? That would be the true sign of losing fat while gaining muscle. I know that years back when I took up running...I didn't lose weight but boy did I slim down inches-wise. Kathy
