Exodus From Obesity
I just finished reading "Exodus From Obesity: The Guide to Long-Term Success After Weight Loss Surgery" by Paula Peck. Before my surgery I read so many books about the surgery and about life immediately after. It was nice now that I'm just over 7 months out to read tips for staying successful in the long term.
I have to recommend it.
The other book I've read that has made a big difference in how I approach eating since WLS is "Superfoods RX" by Steven Pratt & Kathy Matthews. For those of you not familiar with it, it is a book about the top foods that have the most nutritional content per serving. I've tried to base my diet on them. I can't tell you how good they make you feel. Salmon, blueberries, pumpkin, almonds, soy, broccoli, beans, tomatoes, oranges, spinach are the ones I can remember off the top of my head. All my friends tell me I have a "glow" about me. How cool is that?
I'm now reading the followup book that the above authors just put out called "SuperFoods Health Style: Proven Strategies for Lifelong Health." It focuses on the superfoods, but also the importance of three other factors to health, exercise, emotional health and spirituality. I know I'm a geek and have approached this whole WLS thing kind of like a science project, but, it seems to be working for me and I thought I'd share my enthusiasm with the rest of you in the same boat as me as we try to figure out how to live for the rest of our lives and be healthy!

Lori,
Thanks for the recommendation on the books. I'm going to take a look at them. Like you, I think I spent a lot more time planning for the surgery and just after than I've planned for the remainder of my life! I need to get with it!
Congrats on your "glow"! That's fantastic and the way I'd love to feel and look!

Thanks for the recommendations!
Lori, I consider myself a human science project. While I'm not quite anal rententive... I'm an anal rententive wannabe. I keep copies of all my labs and put them in a spreadsheet so that I can keep an eye on my own values. I'm trying to learn more about what the lab tests mean and what is normal and what is norm for post-ops. Tons to learn. Want to make sure my doctor does right by me. I trust her but I trust me - more. Knowledge is power.
We all love to share in your enthusiam whether for working out or for learning about superfoods or something else. We learn from others and better ourselves in the process. Thanks!
Kathy
Thanks, Lori! I am very interested in the long term results of the surgery. I'm especially interested in nutrition for wls patients. Thanks you, thank you, thank you for the recommended reads!

And btw, congrats on the weight loss!!
(I teach middle school science and have approached my surgery from a scientific point of view as well. My students are interested in my progress and love to hear about my latest eating adventures!)
