Well today is my 8-month surgeriversary. Should I be happy? Of course. Am I? NO! I feel like I am a loser! I have only lost 99.5lbs in the last 8months... and that is even including the pre-op weight that I lost on the liquid diet. I see posts on here... and there are some people that are already at goal!.. I still need to lose 60more lbs to be at goal.. and I feel like I am failing. I dont think I am gonna lose another pound! I know that I have lost nearly 100lbs and that is great... but I want more. Why is it taking me so long?!?!?!

Melissa, Hey girl, relax and give yourself a huge pat on the back! 99 lbs is awesome!!!! When have you EVER lost that amount of weight and kept if off? Think of how much healthier you are, how much less stress there is on your heart and other organs. Everyone loses at different paces, depending on where we started, how our metabolism works, our height, what we eat, etc...... I am down 105 lbs in 8 months. That includes my 27 pre op pounds. I still have almost 50 pounds to go. I feel a hell of a lot better than I did 100 lbs ago. I wish I was at goal, but I know I'll get there one day. But even if I don't I'll still be happy with where I am. My quality of life is so drastically improved over what it was a year ago I cannot complain. I know that if I want to lose weight faster I have to be more accountable. Not really with my eating, because I am very good about that. But I don't exercise like I should, I don't drink enough water either. Those are two very important factors. Some days I know I don't get enough protein in, so I know I should kick that up too. I would say to give yourself a break, and look at your habits and your eating, excercise, etc... and make sure you are on track and then just relax and enjoy your success. You are doing a fantastic job!!!! Deanna

Thanks! I know I need to change some things but overall I think I am doing good with protein, exercise, water, and vitamins.

you know what Melissa, I don't want to steal anyone's joy, but I too feel like you do. I have 40 pounds until goal, and I've had those same 40 since October. What I can say is I know that I have not followed this program as I should hav...there's not to much I can change as far as the past, but starting today I do control this. Your 99.5 pounds is awesome. Congrats on making it this far, and remember that you can do this! Please dont feel like you are failing...I am sure that you look absolutely fabo, and dont u feel great? Take care, keep ur head up Girl!

Melissa, They keep telling us in my in-person WLS support group, not to compare ourselves to each other. I know that is much easier said that done! I started out weighing much more than you, so it makes sense I'd have more of a weight loss. But, if you compare me to others, it can feel slow. I just think I need to keep chugging along like the little train that could!!! We all do!!! Keep on chugging baby! Lori 384/263.5/168

I know it! I hear it all the time not to compare myself but that is SOOOO hard to do.

Hello- Congrats on your weight loss! That is amazing. And why some ppl are at goal is probably bc they are lightweights. Which means they had around 100 lbs or so to lose. I am a lightweight and I lack 24.5 lbs. I only had 111 lbs to lose. My angel gave me this. Calculate it and then things maybe will make you feel better. Your doing amazing. Figuring percentage of weight... OK..here is how you do it. Starting weight Minus Weight that is your "goal weight" Equals Amount of weight you need to lose *according to your surgeon* You take the: amount of weight you have lost divide it by amount of weight you need to lose equals the percent of your total you have lost So every time you calculate the amount you have lost, Divided by the total you need to lose, The percentage will change. NOW this is different than figuring out The amount of your TOTAL WEIGHT you have lost. To figure that out you would: Amount you have lost Divided by Amount you initially weighed Equals Percentage of total body weight you have lost Is that as clear as mud??? Better example I will use myself: (This from the original Poster) 231 lbs My initial weight Minus 120 lbs My goal weight Equals 111 lbs Amount I need to lose 86.5 lbs Amount I have lost divided by 111 lbs Amount I need to lose Equals 77.9 % Percentage I have lost of what I need to lose AND 86.5 lbs Amount I have lost Divided by 231 lbs My starting weight Equals 37.4 % Amount of my total starting weight I have lost I hope that helps! 312.5 start - 153 = 159.5 99.5 lost / 159.5 = 62.3% That is an amazing % that you have lost! 99.5 lost / 312.5 = 31.8% I hope I did ur #s right ~April~ Lap Rny May 13, 2005 21 yrs old, 5'1 231 / 144.5 / 120

I actually want to get down to at least 150... so I did my numbers and I lost 61.2% so far. Thanks for the help... I never thought of looking at it like that. (The numbers and math didnt confuse me... I am an engineer!, lol)

Hey, we're in the same boat. I'm down 88 lbs as of this morning and I have anywhere from 38-52 lbs more to go. I think it will take me 6 to 9 more months before I get there. You are not failing! Just get that out of your head right now! Everyone's metabolism is different and our bodies process food differently. I also have that fear that I'm not going to lose anymore weight. I'm having more and more stalls and I try to keep mixing things up. Sometimes it helps, sometimes not. I'll go from losing .4 lbs in a week to 5.6 lbs (which was last week..Yay!). I'm probably averaging 1.8 to 2 lbs a week now. Don't compare yourself to others, just stick with it and even if it takes another year, you'll get there. (((hugs))) Anyway, just wanted to let you know that there are probably alot more of us out here than you thought.
