Back in Ol' Virginnie...
Rich and I got back yesterday...a day early. Decided that I had enough sitting around and staring at my family.
Sooo...today I'm not expected at work so we'll take it easy today and get some chores done. Rich is off til Tuesday but I'll go back to work Thursday and Friday. A bit short on the old vacation leave after a year of 3 surgeries and many tests. Doh!
We had a nice Christmas. The "usual" - too much money spent, too many gifts, too much booze for some and too much food for everyone. I fared fairly well. I did eat more freely sometimes surprising me at how much I could eat but didn't eat to the point of discomfort at all. Didn't have any booze or sweets. We did bring a SF cheesecake from Cheesecake Factory so I had some of that Christmas eve and Christmas day. Rich allowed himself a ****tail on a couple of days and a sliver of real cheesecake and a couple of sugar cookies (no dumping) but he is back off sugar now.
The scale was fairly kind to me given my carb intake which has been much higher and had me slightly fearing the worst. I was 173 last week and then up to 175 on Friday (PMS) and today I'm 173.5 so I consider that a "maintaining" holiday - my FIRST EVER, for sure!
I was actually ill Christmas day with the sinus headache from heck. Took all day for it to leave me alone. Hadn't had one of those in ages.
Anyway, I'm glad to be back at home!
Vicki, just got your email today. Sorry I missed it - I hadn't signed on since the other day. We never did get out to Calverton. My mother passed a year ago and that section still has very soft soil. I was not in the mood to walk in deep mud like I did last year... you lift your foot and you hear the sound of suction as the mud is up 2" or more on the sides of your shoes - UGH! I'll get to meet you one of these days!
It's good to be back...there is something comforting about being in your own home, your own bed and in my "routine" of a life...
Kathy
Kathy,
Welcome back! I think maintaining over Christmas is quite an acheivement! For some bizarre reason, I actually lost 3.5 lbs...don't ask me why as I did eat off program, here and there for the last couple of weeks. I have, however, been exercising like mad. My trainer really is kicking my butt. I meet with him every 6 weeks and he gives me a new routine. I'm on week 2 of the new routine and it is very hard, but, I would never have pushed myself this hard on my own...so it is working.
I'm just so glad the holidays are over!

Hey, Lori!
Looks like you are doing great, just great. More than halfway there and it sounds like the personal trainer is working you hard. That's awesome!
And losing weight over the holidays. FAN-TAB-U-LOUS!
Also, be sure that if you are working out extra hard especially with weights that you add extra protein to help build muscle!
Rich and I are going to check out a new gym tomorrow after work. We have a membership elsewhere that is up in a few weeks and we never seem to get there...convenience factor isn't good. The new one has several locations...one not too far from home (much closer than the other one), one near my work and one on my drive home. Hopefully that will help get us there. Actually Rich was great getting there for quite a while til he hurt his shoulder (overdoing it of course) and me...I had my back problems and surgery, then WLS, then side pain and gallbladder surgery so I haven't been in true full-fledged fine condition to do big workouts. I think that is gonna change!
Keep inspiring me, Lori!
Kathy
Kathy,
If I can inspire anybody that is great! It took me so long to get inspired myself!
I eat an average of 90 to 110 grams of protein a day. I'm also eating an average of 1400 cal a day. With all the working out I'm doing, I guess it is what my body needs.
You'll both feel like a million once you get used to exercising on a regular basis. The first couple of months though can be a killer! Now, it is hard to get through my day without it!
