Hello my may family- I figured it would be best to ask on this board since we are all about the same out! For the new year I am wanting to have an amaretto sour. My fav drink. And was wondering who has had alcohol so far? So any one had a drink so far? If so what kind? How did you take it? As for me, nope. Been waiting because I fear how I will take it. With the sugar and everything. No prob w/alcohol before surgery. But I only had amaretto sours. Which never bothered me before. Thanks for your replies and your honesty! Hugs. Hope all is well for everyone. ~April~ Lap Rny May 13, 2005 21 yrs old, 5'1 231 / 146.5 / 120

Hey, April... Have you had sugar? Do you dump? If you don't then the amaretto sour would be fine. It does have sugar in the sour mix and it does have calories but the way I look at it - it's new years - if you want a drink - have one. I wasn't a big drinker before surgery. I'm old enough to be your mother (really? wow, yea... how 'bout that... wanna be adopted - we are thinking of adopting at some point but I digress..) and alcohol obviously isn't as much a part of my socialization as someone your age. Rich is over a year post-op and he has had a few beers and such at various times over the years. He said that the alcohol seemed to hit him much faster so obviously he won't even have one drink if he is driving. Doesn't want to take a risk. Anyway, my thoughts for a very early Sunday morning. Hugs, Kathy

I have tried Miceloeb Ultra light and red wine and haven't found a problem with either. Just remember modereation! I would think that an amaretto sour would be packed full of sugar. Check out the contents on line somewhere and then try something of similar sugar and see how it makes you feel. You sure wouldn't want to ring in the New Year with a night of dumping! Jen

Hi April, Yes I've recently have been given the "ok" for drinking. Tried it last week at the Christmas party. Had two drinks: vodka, cranberry juice and a little ginger ale. Both went down fine but drank both very slowly and over an hour a part. I've always heard we WLS folk are cheap drunks...and it's true. That second drink I had to let sit a while before picking it up again. Sugar does not effect me in any way. I will have something New Year's Eve but that'll be it. I was never much of a drinker before surgery.

I've had (just in the last week or so) two glasses of blackberry wine and a glass of cream sherry. Both of which hit me FAST but wore off really fast, too. I mean, like 3 sips of the sherry and I had a buzz, but it wore off after about 10 - 15 minutes and then I'd take another few sips. Crazy. The sour does have sugar in it, but amaretto sours were my favorite drink pre-op, too. I've not tried them but may at some point in the future. Michelle

Good morning. I, also, have tried a couple of different drinks in the past week (I was on vacation). I tried a Mic Ultra low carb beer and after drinking only half, could feel a slight buzz so I stopped. Then I tried a Kauluha and Creme (it was really milk) and felt fine. I also tried a glass of Sangria and had no problem with that either. Then again, I have not had any problems with sugar - I haven't had any candy or baked goods since May so the alcohol is the only big thing I've tried. Good luck. I say try it - you'll know pretty quickly whether you can have that second si*****t. Happy Holidays. Cindee 310/225/???

I have had a glass of chardonnay here and there and one beer last month. I also had a Bailey's & cocoa last month and everything was just fine. Amaretto is pretty sweet, so maybe try one at home before you try it in public. Take care, J
