I am so totally and utterly p*ssed. Been seeing an endo for a few
months to deal with calcium and parathyroid issues that existed PRIOR
to WLS.
Went to see him today - he wants me to come back in 4-6 months for reevaluation. Then he tells me that my calcium is now in normal range (the top end of normal) and my parathyroid hormone is just slightly elevated which it is at the present moment. Yes, that is correct. Then he tells me that it isn't unusual for that given I've had gastric bypass.
Duh? My levels have been off for 3 years! 2.5 years prior to WLS. Didn't review my chart to refresh his own memory on my case. I corrected him and he shrugged it off.
This was on top of writing a letter to my surgeon discussing my case where he said that I was diabetic but never on meds. I took insulin for 5 years prior to WLS and of course I told him that. He just doesn't pay attention - he is all over the place.
Also when I had my dexa scan a few months ago, I was told by the technician I had osteopenia. I give him the results and he says "All is well". He even had my previous one from a couple of years ago to compare it to. "No, it's normal." Then when he writes to surgeon he says I have osteopenia. DUH?
From my Sestamibi scan, I know that I don't have primary parathyroidism. No adenoma. Derned it. That was an easy fix. So, what causes secondary parathyroidism - things like cancer, kidney disease, etc. I'm taking this crap very seriously and this man is not paying attention.
Need to find another doctor.
