gaining weight??
I just has shoulder surgery on Wednesday, and have noticed the scale is no longer my friend!
Before my surgery, I weighed 173 and now I weigh 180. HUH? I haven't been eating THAT much to gain 7 lbs! It's pretty discouraging to see on the scale, so I took my scale to my neighbor's house for 'safe' keeping!
I've not poop'd since surgery, but surely, I won't lose 7 lbs of that! lol My fingers feel a little more swollen, could I be retaining water?
Any ideas as to why this happens or how long it takes to lose it again?
Any advice is appreciated!
Take care -
Ashleigh
(was 23 lbs from goal, and now I'm 30!!)
p.s. sorryfor the cross-post, but I 'think' some of us Maysters might have already had another surgery, and could really help!
Ashleigh,
It's gotta be fluid retention. Anytime you have surgery your body is going to retain fluid for a few days, sometimes even a few weeks - it's a natural defense mechanism to "trauma" to your body. Just keep drinking lots of fluids and it will flush ou****er in = Water out.
The constipation will definately play a role in it, too.
Feel better!

Shannon,
When you have surgery they pump you full of fluids and typically you gain 5-10 pounds. When I had my hysterectomy in October I gained 5 pounds while in the hospital. However, I had lost all of them plus a couple more pounds in about a week. I think I just had to pee all of it out! I think they pump all of the fluids in so you don't get dehydrated, but it's so much more than you ever could drink it makes us have a temporary gain. I'm sure you'll be back down to your original weight very shortly.
How are you feeling? I hope you're not in any pain and feeling much better!
Take care!

Hi Ashleigh, Everybody's words are so wise and encouraging.
Try not to get anxious. Our doc advises colace for the constipation. Maybe that would ease the stress on the 'innards' . God bless you and Wishing you a speedy recovery & hope you feel great again very soon and that the shoulder issues mend well.

Hey, Ashleigh - I am with everyone else here, probably has a lot to do with fluid retention from the surgery. The first thing they do is hook you up to an IV and pump you chock-full of fluids. Fluid retention is a pain! I'm having my loverly cycle right now and feel like I weigh 300 pounds again!! Blech! Give it some time, I'm sure it will come off before you know it!
