Down periscope...........

I gotta have a scope done next Thursday cause something's going on with Sissy. There is way too much acid going on in there, I have to take a Prilosec in the morning and drink a vile concoction called Zegerid before bed. I was having the worst night time reflux-it burned my throat so bad, I was gasping for air. The hospital said they were going to knock me out-just in case they have to fix something while they're in there. I have a feeling I'm not gonna like it very much. Do I have to be awake to swallow the camera? What should I expect, those of you who've had it done? Help!! Becky Jean

Becky Jean, I've had an endoscopy twice...PIECE OF SF CAKE, my dear. They have you dressed like surgery and put in an IV which they will use to put your joy juice in. Then they roll you into the Endoscopy Suite. They'll chat you up. They will have you put what looks like a pacifier in your mouth and bite down on it and they'll strap it around your head. The camera is going to thread through it and it is to prevent you from biting down on the camera cable. They'll have you roll on your side while they administer your "****tail" and the next thing you know you'll be in recovery waking up. The whole procedure is very quick (mere minutes) and the anesthesia is very light. Once in recovery, they'll give you soda or juice (in my case water and crackers) and that's that! The doctor will come and give you a copy of your report with pictures and everything. So, you'll know before you leave what they found. It'll all be typed up. No worries, hon. Let them take a look-see and figure out what is going on. Hugs, Kathy

I've had worse! How about having your arse cauterized with concentrated nitric acid following a bite from a doberman pincher? Can you say "Owie!"??? My pediatrician/family doc was a sadist. Kathy

I had to have it done 3 times within 1 month. It wasn't bad, I guess. My problem is that I have a VERY high drug tolerance, so the IV meds they gave me wore off about 1/2 way thru, so I gagged on the camera until they gave me more. They'll also either have you drink some nasty liquid, kinda like runny vaseline, that numbs your throat. Heck, it'll even numb your teeth! lol It's nasty, but I prefer it to the spray. The spray is like Chrloiseptic (sp??). They say it's cherry flavored. YUCK! Not hardly. lol Once I was done, I got to leave. I was awake all 3 times as they finished, so didn't have to "recover" like most people did. My throat was a little raw from coughing on the camera (because I woke up), but it wasn't to bad. If you take a lot to knock out, or wake up from them easily, make sure you let the nurse know that is giving you the meds. The first time they learned and had an extra bottle of the drug handy.
