I'm Venting - Look out!

I've only lost twenty-something pounds over the last three months combined and I actually put on weight over the last week. I'm sure it's water/muscle/bulky clothes/whatever the excuse du jour, so take your pick. I wouldn't be so annoyed if I weren't working out so much and being so careful about what I eat. I did my measurements and my butt, hips and thighs are not trimming down despite the fact that I power walk, jog, do kickboxing, do step aerobics, do tons of lower body toning - all the things that are supposed to make a difference. Guess my massive rump didn't get the memo that it's supposed to be getting smaller. I bought a few pairs of size 18 slacks at Goodwill and all of them are too big in the waist, yet too tight across the thighs. AAARRRGGGGHHHH!!!!!! Please don't misunderstand, I am EXTREMELY grateful for the weight I've lost and I am genuinely happy for everyone else's success, but sometimes it's frustrating to see others losing so quickly with far less effort. Yes, yes, I know we shouldn't compare... everyone is different... some started at higher weights... blah, blah, blah. I'm in a crappy mood today, so don't mind me.

If you do the same exercises all of the time, your body might be getting so used to them that it is stalling. Try mixing it up a little. Same goes with your caloric intake. If you are consistantly hitting the same amount of calories every day, your body will stall. Try eating 800 calories one day and then 1200 the next and so on and so forth. I hope this helps ya! Hi there FFFC, Go ahead and vent. It is frustrating! I gained a pound last week and although I knew mentally with the loss of 9 lbs over the last 3 wks my body was probably just getting some equalibrium or getting used to the changes etc. before moving on to more loss. I have felt sad about it all week and then ate a bunch of potato chips Monday nt. and I don't even really like pot. chips. ( my sadness shifting to depression shifting to rebellion, sound familiar? ) I think we are all going thru alot of changes. Changes that even tho we tried a million times pre-op we were unable to pull off or keep off. It is so wonderful that we are 'over all' losing and have dropped sizes etc. BUT I for one, am not yet able to predict how and when my body will drop lbs or sizes and I do get VERY frustrated. It is relatively all very NEW to us. I know we should not compare and the princilpe is true and of value but it is easier said than done. There is the haunting whisper in my head when I read others stellar success saying " Well then, What's wrong with me????, there MUST be something radically WRONG with ME !! " My guess is, nothing really. Just we are all so individual. And I strongly suspect that with all the exercise and careful eating you are doing that you will soon get an early Christmas present from your body. And I pray you do. Hang on in there sis, we are gonna make it thru. I was so addicted to the scale and drove myself batty that I started back to Weigh****chers to submit to a scale I can neither play games with or manipulate. (ex. hang toes off end, lean to left or right to get a better reading, get off and on 6 times and take the best average wgt. then if it was a good reading losing lbs., I would play destructive games with food like my {'affair with peanut M&M's' over a month ago,} ) It was crazy making for me. I desire very strongly to learn how to eat healthy {for life} while still having some treats along the way so I feel very satisfied and not deprived. I have a meeting leader who is a fantastic teacher and has a whole brief case full of low point food wrappers to look thru and discover what I CAN eat that is filling and satisfying yet helpful to my weight loss. What works for me may not work well for anybody else post-op but I needed off the emotional rollercoaster and this was my method. I wish you the best and glad you trusted your May buddies enough to be real. God Bless ya, I will send a quick one up for ya and hope you will do the same for me MARY

I am sorry sweety, I know how frustrating it can be to plateau. I did it for a while to, I think we all have. I will agree with you, I am not doing as great as others, but better than some and its not because I am eating healthier and exercising more, cause I know I could learn alot in that department. I think mine must be lots of prayers!!!!!!!!!!!!! I know that any day I could stall again so I am just enjoying the moment while I can! I will say a special Prayer for you tonight and hopefully soon, your hard work will show up on the scale!! ((((((((((((((((((((((hugs))))))))))))))))))))))

Girl, Vent away!!! I know how you feel, I actually only lost 8 pounds over the past 3 months, so you are doing great. I agree with Heather, you need to mix it up perhaps...is this your first plateau? I just got over a 6 week hump, and now I'm back to like 2 pounds a week. How are your measurements?

Vent away, my friend to the north! I had the same number on the scale for 3 weeks in a row and I know how tiresome that can be. Weight is certainly not flying off my body. I lost 6 lbs last month and this month ain't showing but a pound or so thus far. Things are moving slow and actually I've been up a pound or two a few days this week. What's up with that anyway? I know I don't eat enough cals to truly gain so... It is hard not to compare. The post of how much everyone has lost... I believe that since surgery... I'm one of the slowest losers but because I lost for the 3 months prior to surgery - that bumps me up to a better number. Had to remind my surgeon...that I had a 3 month jump-start to things. I had not lost what he estimated as 70% of my excess in 6 months - it was 9 months. (To me it is 85% of the myexcess but that's me!) LOL! Hang tough! The advice to shake things up a bit is always good advice. You are doing great! You really truly are! Hugs, Kathy

Thanks everyone for your kind words and advice! I truly appreciate the support and prayers. I think mixing things up food-wise is an excellent suggestion. I see my nutritionist tomorrow and I will talk to her about incorporating some other things into my diet. According to my surgeon's program, we are allowed to begin introducing whole wheat pasta and brown rice into our diet, but I have not done so because I am paranoid about the carb content hindering my weight loss. In addition, I'm a seafood eating vegetarian and I only eat seafood once or twice per week, so my options are somewhat limited. Anyway, I'll see what my nutritionist suggests. Thanks again. Love you all! Hugs, Tracy

Actually, I noticed that the harder I watched calories and such, the more I stalled. I eat egg noodles (No Yolks brand) when I make Beef Roast and Noodles for my family and do fine. I think it's your body's way of wanting different things. Carbs aren't all bad. I eat wheat bread on occasion, as well. A small amout, but it's enough that my body says "WHEEEEW! About time!!". Try not to watch the scale so much, if you can help it. I know it's tempting. lol I was sure I'd lost 10 pounds one week and hadn't lost any, eveb though my clothes were much looser. Muscle weighs more than fat, so apparently while losing in the belly and butt and tad, something else toned up, so the scale didn't drop. It is depressing, so I try to avoid the scale anymore. Hang in there! It'll start back up will drop, probably, quite a bit again when it starts back up. That's what happened to me. Good luck with the nutritionist! Let us know what she says!
