I would suggest that you don't substitute a protein drink for a meal. Have 3 meals a day and then your proteins as "snacks". Also, info going around is that the body will only absorb about 30 grams of protein at a time. It'd be better for you to split your 50 gram protein drink in half and drink it two different times during the day. I was level for 3 weeks a little bit ago and really didn't change a thing and started losing again. Just the way the body works. Usually shaking things up can get you going. Eat more calories one day. Don't eat the same every day. The body gets in a rut. Eat more one day and then what you eat now the next. Mix it up. Vary what you eat. Same with exercise. If you walk, ride an exercise bike. Again, mix it up. Personally, I do 3 protein shakes a day (33 grams each) and 3 meals and that seems to work for me. Kathy

Funny how surgeons and nutritionists differ because mine says the exact opposite of Kathy's. She says under no cir****tances should we have protein shakes and bars as regular snacks because of the calories - they are to substitute a meal. She says three meals per day and no snacking. If we get hungry and must have something to eat, make it an ounce or two of lean, dense protein, but not an entire shake or an entire protein bar. Bottom line, follow your doc's protocols since different bariatric programs are all over the map when it comes to what we should eat. Like Cathy said, stalls are normal, so don't worry about it. Your body is playing catch-up and the scale will get moving again soon enough. Good luck! Tracy

LOL...My surgeon advises agains protein supplements all together. So it is funny how advise/rules from surgeons differs. My surgeon wants us to get all of our protein in naturally, through food. I manage by eating a ton of cheese and cottage cheese and tuna. I manage to get in 60+ grams a day. I hit a 2 week plateau in October and managed to break it by upping my water intake and protein intake, as well as upping my exercise...Don't get discouraged though, you're body will return to losing soon!! Thanks everyone, I'm gonna try to change my food & exercise around some & see if that helps. I know I am still losing though, I went to my surgeon on 11/10/05 & had to go back yesterday & in 3 weeks I had lost 7lbs. So I am not gonna get upset. Thanks again. Tammy

Tammy, In my opinion, you aren't eating enough to lose weight. What is this about 500 calories a day? If you can get your calories up to 1000 day it gives your body "permission" to lose. But, that is what my nutritionist tells me. Lori 384/272/170
