Learned Something Re: Sugar Alchols
When I spoke to my Nut yesterday, I asked her about Sugar Alcohols and I thought I'd share what I learned.
One of my favorite protein bars is made by Pria - I don't have all the stats in front of me right now, but it's a high protein, low sugar bar and they taste great. They do have 17g of Sugar Alcohols, though. I've never had problems eating them, so imagin my surprise when I ate a piece of SF candy a few weeks ago without about the same amount of SA and dumped.
Yesterday, on the way down, I had a Pria bar because I had to eat while I was driving. I didn't think about the whole SA thing until I was 3/4 through the bar, and then kind of freaked when I did read the label (I always read the labels, no matter how many times I've eaten something...) because I thought I was going to dump again. I didn't. So I asked my Nut, "What's up with that?"
She told me that SA, when combined with protien, doesn't typically give you problems, but if you're sensitive to them, as I apparently am, eating them on their own will make you sick. That's why they don't bother me in the protien bar but did in the candy.
So, I thought that was kind of interesting and good to know, and I thought I'd share.
