Salt

I was talking to a girlfriend of mine today that had WLS in March. We were just chatting about eating and such and it hit me ... I crave salt. Since I started eating "real" food again, I salt it - even salad. What is this all about? Anyone else picking up the salt shaker? Diane

Diane, I seem to have more of a craving for salt too. Lori 384/280/170

Could it be not enough fluids? I know when I'm getting dehydrated, I always take a pinch of salt - it helps you retain fluids. Our bodies sometimes crave things that it needs without us even knowing it. I remember when I was pregnant with my son, the doc asked me all sorts of questions about whether I was craving/eating paint chips, paste, etc. I laughed, but he said it was a common thing to have a natural craving for that kind of stuff if your body lacks the nutrients and minerals it needs....

Becky, I think you may be right. I started drinking a couple of cups of coffee in the morning again and I can sure tell it has been dehydrating me. I need to really up the water if I'm going to take on coffee again. Lori

Diane, I don't find myself salting my food much, but I do crave salty things like pretzels, popcorn, etc. sometimes. I don't crave sweets at all, and I've always been the picture next to "chocolaholic" in the dictionary. It's amazing how this surgery changes your tastes. ~Wanda
