Crap! I think I'm dumping...

Typically, I buy the Weight Control Oatmeal but last week, I bought a box of the low sugar kind. Guess I didn't read the label too carefully, because even though it's only 4 g of sugar (Weight Control has 1), sugar is the second ingredient on the list. This morning, when I re-read the package, I thought, ok, 4g isn't too bad, I should be okay. So now I'm trying to decide if I'm having a mini-dumping episode... hot flashes, feeling a little spacey. No rolling in the gut yet, though... Hmmm.. Not sure if I'm just over-analyzing or if I'm really dumping... Crap. And Aaron just left to get a haircut and I'm alone with the demon spawn, er, my beautiful little 2 year old angel...

That sounds like what happens to me with high-fat foods. I've never gotten toooooo sick, but when I indulge in something high fat I get really really tired and I need to lay down for about 20 minutes. I sometimes get a little nausea, depending on how much I've eaten. I think you'll be fine...but it's a good discouragement anyway...'cause now you'll know how your body reacts to a little sugar. Imagine a lot.

Amazing...4 grams of sugar doesn't sound like alot does it. Sorry you had the problem, Becky. At least it was a "mini" one. My *dumping* episodes have been different. I get pain from my stomach all the way down my intestines. Feels like it is sore. My belly is even sore to the touch. Just felt I needed to curl up in a ball and sleep it off (not tired but being in a fetal position seemed the *right* thing to do.)I've had it happen about 4 times and spoke to doctor and he believes it is my way of dumping. The last time was with a liquid form of B complex. The stuff had apple juice concentrate in it and two many grams of sugar. So I do believe I dump on sugar. The other three times were with strange foods: high protein low carb cereal sweetened with splenda (this was earlier post-op and perhaps my body wasn't ready for so much fiber) and the other two was the infamous Outback Steakhouse salmon with reumolade sauce. Dummy me ate the leftovers the next day so I could have the experience twice! Duh! Oh and I also had a version of this from sugar alcohol once. So much for SF candy (wintergreen lifesavers). Hope you are doing better! Hugs, Kathy

Luckily, it didn't last too long - maybe 45 minutes. The more I think about it, the more I'm thinking it would have been okay had I made it with water, instead of milk. I'm wondering if the milk sugars didn't add to the sugar in the oatmeal. Either way, just one more thing I leanred...
