Thoughts on reaching "weight" goal but not "size" goal

I put my goal weight at 160. Why not. Never been there as an adult. I'm 183 lbs now (up two lbs from a couple of days ago...whatever!... PMS or is it the derned barium...who knows, who cares, it'll be gone again) so I really believe it is possible for me to get to that number. 160. Attainable, I feel. But sizewise, I'm not sure that my body...give the years of being overweight will get down to the physical size I was when I weighted my lowest as an adult which was 167-170 ish. I have clothing from back then and the waist size is about 30". Right now I'm about a 35" waist or so. Definitely extra skin figures into this. I'm certainly not "built" the same as I was then...early 20s. I have a belly (there is that skin thing again...). We won't even include the sagging girls in this and my thights into this discussion. I just don't see my waist going down 5-6 inches in 20 lbs. Ya know? If my some miracle I could afford plastics...yea, I can see that. But nope, don't see it. So, I guess I might need to reset my goal size (not a set number on a clothing tag) but a waist size from years gone by. Kathy

Hi Kathy, I have had moments of sadness where I have thought "even if I get to my goal weight, I have damaged my body so badly with years of obesity, I will never look good". But you know what- I feel better and I no longer take medication of any kind- no more diabetes, high cholesterol, high blood pressure... Those are the important things. Don't be sad if you never fit into clothes from years gone by. Our bodies change as we get older- that would have happened even if you were 130lbs all along. Anyway- you deserve to buy yourself some NEW things for all your hard work! Let go of the past and those old clothes

Thanks, Diane! Oh, believe me...if weight lost stopped here...I'd be thrilled. Medical conditions solved and under control. Feel good when I move around. Lots of stamina. Physically active. I just liked the concept of getting back into some of the clothing I've toted with me this 20 years. The dress I got for my sister's wedding in 1981 fit last night. Weird thing is that my goal weight is probably just a bit over 10 lbs less than when I wore the stuff that I'm talking about but measurement wise I just don't see my body accomodating that. Oh well. More donations. I'll get plenty of new clothing when I need it. Actually got hand me downs from my sister (casual clothing, coat, etc) she has always been smaller than me and lost weight so I've got 29.5 jogging suits but that's a topic for another day. Kathy
