DOCTORS ARE SO FRUSTRATING!!!

I've been to FIVE doctors since the end of June to try and get rid of this chronic coughing. None have had any real help for me. Then last month I had a coughing spurt and ended up with a hernia from it. So today, I finally go in to see my surgeon. He said, yup definately a hernia that needs fixing. But then he said that he won't fix it until the cough is gone or it could just rip open again!!!! Now, I understand his thinking here, but i've done about everything to get this cough gone to no avail!!!! So I told him that and he wants me to get a broncoscopy (sp??) from a lung doctor. I assuming that that is a scope down in the lungs. So I go see the pulmonologist next week and we'll get the scope scheduled. In the mean time.......... it's back to having to wear a binder for me!!! Laurie, Do you take any meds? I had chronic coughing last year from Altace which is a blood pressure med (ace inhibitor). I went to doctor, allergist, you name it. I was put on asthma drugs (thats what i thought it was) then told "you don't have asthma - I think you have respiratory something-er-other". You know how I found out what it was? I ran out of pills when my mother got sick and was out of state without. Voila, my coughing stopped. Grrrrrrr.... It's a thought. Since June? At least my gallbladder has only been flared up since Labor Day. Feel better! Kathy

No I don't take any regular meds. But I'm wondering about asthma. Yes, since June. I was thinking that it was the mildew and mold in the basement of the house we rented, but we moved a few weeks ago and i'm still coughing and weasing. I'm just glad to finally have someone who WANTS to get this fixed for me!!! I'm sure tired of it. It's quite an annoyance to have a coughing fit in a restaurant, grocery store, church, etc... everyone looks at me like I'm giving them some dreaded uncurable disease or something!!! Laurie

I was diagnosed with allergy-induced asthma several years ago. I coughed for like 9 weeks straight. I was at the movies with a friend and she said...you are wheezing! I went to the allergist who diagnosed me. Put me on inhalers and that kept it under control. I only go back on them when I need them which isn't often. That's why with my coughing last year...I assumed spring time allergies. NOT. Medication side effect. If you take a deep breath and exhale long...do you cough at the end of the exhale? It could be that the mold got your body in an allergic uproar and instigated some asthma. Even though you have moved, your body is still irritated. Good luck! Kathy
