Lab Tests

At what point did your surgeon do your post op lab work. I have an appointment next week. I will be just over 4 months post op. I haven't had any labs done so I am curious how my results will be. I have been fairly good abut my vitamins. Mostly forgetting my Iron in the afternoon. I have tried to move it around to other times but with the calcium 2x day I just can't find a good time. My energy has remained good and I feel very well so we will just see what the test say....... Anyone have a Lab Results or Vitamin story? I would love to know how others have been Thanks Jen

My surgeon doesn't do lab wor****il 1 year out, unless warranted. She said if I had any concerns, or something odd came up, we could it earlier.

MY GP did blood work at one month post-op but not the full array of tests. I just went back to my surgeon for a four month checkup and he wanted comprehensive blood work. He'll want the same when I go see him in 3 months, I believe. He does them every few months for the first year and then every 6 months I believe. Rich had blood work every few months and needing "tweaking" along with way. One series of blood tests he had to add folic acid supplement in addition to what was in his multivitamin. Another time, he had to add iron since he platelets were down (they are still below normal but being monitored). And most recently, Vit A - he needed to add an extra one of those. Many of the tests that they do are counts of long term stores of things like iron and protein. Those will probably be fine for a while (or even years) but only time will tell if those stay that way. Best wishes, Kathy

My doc had me do them at three months. I will have them done every three months (quarterly) for the first year. Then I think he goes to six months, then phase out. My first one was all good news!

My doctor did her first ones at 3 months, then I think she repeats them every 3 months until you are at 18 months, then it goes to annually, unless a problem occurs. My results looked great! Lori 384/294/170

Jen, One thing I should mention though is that my insurance denied my post op lab work. I had to appeal to get them to pay (it was $700, I don't want to pay that out of pocket every three months.) They did pay. Lori
