For Hair Loss...
Diet may be an issue. To maintain healthy hair and help prevent further loss, make sure you're getting enough omega-3 fatty acids. Eat salmon (wild Alaskan), sardines, herring or mackerel two or three times a week, or sprinkle two tablespoons of freshly ground flaxseeds per day on cereal or salads.
Yuck! I don't like seafood at all
Omega-3 comes in big capsules but due to the fact that we malabsorb fats...they won't work for RNY post-ops. Plus there is the early post-op not swallowing big honking capsules concern.
There is an emulsified fish oil that can be used by post-ops. The brand is Coromega. I know that vitalady sells it but I got mine at vitacost.com . Another benefit of fish oil is that it is a natural inflammation reducer. My back surgeon recommended it to my husband and I both. He has herniated discs in his upper back and tendonitis in his shoulder and I had back surgery in March before my WLS. Since we cannot take NSAIDS (advil, aleve and other anti-inflammatories) - he recommended the fish oil. I bought some...it is in a aluminum foil wrapper and tastes like orange. Not too bad. My problem is that I haven't gotten it into my vitamin/supplement routine on a regular basis to see if it helps.
I lost hair with weight loss before and know that time will fix it. Biotin, Nioxin shampoo and treatments did nothing to remedy it. The hair loss is due to the physical stress on your body of a rapid weight loss. Some folks get it and some don't. My protein levels are a bit high so I know it isn't a lack of protein or other things.
