Hello, fellow Mayers How is everyone feeling these days? Well, I am now experiencing my very first "cold" since the surgery and I realize that I can no longer take the medications that I used to take before surgery. I need some help. What medications can I take now to assist with this oncoming "cold." I know that colds really run their course, but I thought I would help it out a little. What can I take?

Lakisha, I have my first cold too! I feel horrible. I am taking Tylenol cold and sinus during the day and benadryl at night...both were OK'd my my doc at my 1month post op. I also asked him about Motrin...and he said that is ok as well, but only on occasion( I lived on Motrin during my period) but I've noticed the cramps arent so bad post op. Pre-op I had like a weeks warning, but now, its just like...oh! Hi... I hope you feel better sweetie!

I am not sure about over the counter medicines but my aunt swears by echinacea? and vitamin C. I have tried this in the past and it really did seem to head off my colds. You could give that a try. Cary

Hi Lakisha, My doc encourages us to take 1000mg capsules 2-3 x a day at the first sigh of a cold and it always works well for me. I prefer the capsules to the tablets cuz they are smaller and dissolve quicker in the pouch. Hope you feel better soon. Maybe the old crock pot may come in handy for some chicken soup which many grannies swear by for immune system support. Bless ya, M.
