Gallbladder issues
Wanda,
Thanks!
Right now, things are at a minor annoyance level. LOL! I eat...then I get pain under the right side of my rib cage. It fades and then comes back when I eat again. When I have a protein shake...nothing. I ate turkey tonight (no fat) and it still reacted.
I have a regular doctor's appointment scheduled for Monday so I'll address it then. Figured that calling the doc tomorrow wouldn't really get me in much sooner at this point in the game.
We'll see... thanks again!
Kathy
I had mine taken out at the same time as my RNY. Before surgery my surgeon ordered a ultrasound of it and my liver and other misc guts. When he met w/my family after surgery he said he took it out because it would have had to come out in 6-8 months anyway. But, for you I have heard that the surgery to remove the gallbladder is almost always lap and usualy has a lot less recovery time than WLS. Good Luck
I had mine taken out 12 years ago, but what you described below is what happened to me. I was 7 months pregnant with my daughter when I found out I had gall stones so they couldn't do anything about it, just put me on an extremely low fat diet. It started out like you described, just an uncomfortable type feeling under my ribs, almost like someone was tightening a belt around my mid-section. Usually when I ate lower fat foods it wasn't too bad, but it didn't always keep it away. The night I found out about my gall stones (I didn't know I had them before) I had gone out to dinner and had crab with the butter sauce, baked potato with the works (butter, sour cream, etc), french fries, and cheesecake for dessert - yepper!! That got the pain coming!
Now, keep in mind I've been over 300 pounds since about 1988, this was in 1993. I was around 310 when I got pregnant and was 285 when I delivered my daughter. Yeppers, I lost weight with my pregnancy. They waited as long as they could after I had my daughter to remove my gall bladder because I had her C-section. But when she was about 7 weeks old, I ended up getting a stone caught in the bile duct and you talk about PAIN! I couldn't even drink water without doubling over it hurt so bad. The ended up doing emergency surgery. When I went in for my 6 week check up after having my gall bladder out, I weighed about 255 or so (about what I am now) and my surgeon said, "Now you can eat whatever you want again!" WRONG thing to say to me! Hubby and I went home and ordered a lg pizza and finished it off between the two of us. I put on about 50 pounds within a few months and have stayed over 300 since then.
Gall bladder surgery is pretty easy. I had mine lap and was sleeping on my stomach that night. Hope all goes well for you, Kathy!
