OMGSH - Today is my 18th wedding anniversary. I've been married for 1/2 my life now. Hahaha (we got married when I was 18 and I just turned 36 last week) So, he took me to my favorite restaurant tonight for dinner. It happens to be Lucky's Steakhouse. I've always LOVED their fresh bread!!! So it comes to the table and I take a TINY sliver of it (for the special occassion) YUCK it had NO taste to it at all!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It was like eating nothing with a little butter on it. Now pre-op I could eat 1/2 of the loaf they brought out. It was wonderful. I went there just for that. I was sooooo dissapointed and glad at the same time. I'll miss it, but at least I won't be tempted to eat more and more of it!!! LOL I ate about 1/4 cup of salad and a couple bites of mashed potatoes. And then I just cut a small piece off his sirloin steak. I took a tiny bite and chewed it a million times, but right after swallowing it, I felt just such a HEAVY sense in my pouch, it felt aweful!!! That was the end of my meal. I couldn't take another bite. He asked me if I'd have rather gone elsewhere (cuz I didn't eat much) but I told him that nothing taste good to me. I can only handle softer foods, everything else makes me sick. So McDonald, Taco Bell, Subway, Lucky's, Applebee's its all about the same to me. Just a ick meal that I eat because I need to eat to stay alive. I sure hope I can "enjoy" eating again one day!!! laurie - Lookin' Lean but Food Challenged right now

I'm sorry you didn't get to enjoy your special meal. I have had no problems with food. I can eat steak with no problem. We are told to eat protein first so I would have started with the steak then nibbled on the rest. Going out to eat isn't the experience it used to be.

If I start with the steak I wouldn't have gotten another bite down. I've done that multiple times. For lunch I had cottage cheese with a little applesauce on top. That went down well, but anything more "solid" then that just doesn't work. GGGGGGGGRRRRRRRRR But the weight loss is nice. Laurie

I'm sorry you went through that! See, I still very much enjoy food. I focus so much more on the taste and stuff of it whereas before I only focused on the quantity and the fear that I may not get enough! I never had enough food (or so I thought). I would eat enough for 3 people and then feel that I was satisfied. It was never about the 'what' but the 'how much' I was eating. Now, I enjoy the actual food. I still don't eat as much as some post-ops at my stage that I know of. I can VERY rarely eat 1/2 cup at a time. It's becoming more doable now, but just in the last week or so have I been able to. And there are some foods that I've not tried yet (like steak) just cuz I'm scared to Hopefully you'll be able to enjoy food again sometime soon! Michelle

Thanks Michelle - I don't know if I'll enjoy food again or not. Isn't it funny how everyone reacts to wls differently. Some enjoy food, others don't. Some get strictures, others don't. Some get herrnias, others don't. Guess it just goes to show that we were all created to be individuals!! laurie

Congrats on your wedding anniversary! Sorry you couldn't enjoy your meal. I can't even go grocery shopping. Nothing has the slightest appeal to me. I can eat just about everything that I have tried in small amts but I don't get that "I gotta have it" feeling anymore. I often wonder if this is how "normal" people live. No extreme food cravings, can take it or leave it? Next time have him take you shopping!! Jen

Yes, I don't like grocery shopping either. Any no matter what I buy, when it comes time to EAT it, it's like "major YUCK"!!!! I'd settle for being able to eat the foods without feeling sick even if it didn't have any taste to it, but to have no taste and for it to make me sick is just horrible!!! Take me shopping!!!! Yes, I'd go for that one, but I just went for my birthday and I don't want to get many clothes cuz I got about 50lbs yet to lose. But we are going to Mackinaw Island this weekend and walking across the bridge on Labor Day. Laurie

Laurie, I feel your pain, there are very FEW things that are appealing to me. The surgeon that does the support group I go to said that will change about 6 months out. In the meantime thank the lord I love my protien shake!!! Heidi 295/223/165

Laurie, I feel the same about food, nothing tastes the same and things that I use to enjoy now I don't care for. Also yes I just eat now to stay alive. Every once in a while I will get a craving for something crunchy and salty..so I eat a crunchy pickle...seems to do the trick!!!
