Feel like crap!!
I'm right back to not being able to really eat again. What the heck is wrong with me? I can only really handle liquids. Everything else makes me feel so sick. Not, like it's stuck sick. I just feel so uncomfortable. I've spent the last two days eating out because we've been out of town. Went to Ruby Tuesdays and ordered a grilled chicken sandwich with no bun, and mashed potatoes instead of fries. I was able to pick through some of the potatoes (they have skin mixed in and I couldn't eat that) and I ate about three TINY pieces of the chicken. Followed the rules, chewed like crazy waited quite a while inbetween bites........ and just a few minutes later I was miserable. I've gone to the surgeon for this before and they tell me that "there's nothing physically" wrong.......... so is it all in my head??????????? I don't know. I feel like I could very well just be going NUTS!!!
I am only able to "enjoy" eating a meal about once or twice a week, the rest of the time I'm trying to force it down. I'm currently down to being able to eat two meals a day. So total - about 5 oz of food a day!! My water is a little low, but not bad. I can usually get in 50 - 60 oz a day.
I'd call the surgeon again, but I already have "the soonest appointment" to see him (according to his scheduler) and it's not until the end of October!!!!!
Geeeee - only eight more weeks of hell, before I can see him again! YIPPIE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Laurie - Obviously, NOT in a good mood today
Laurie,
I'm so sorry you're having troubles again. I know you must be frustrated. It certainly sounds like you shouldn't be feeling the way that you are, but it also sounds like you need a medical professional to help you. I hope that perhaps your doctor or surgeon can fit you in earlier than the end of October! Meanwhile, keep doing what you're doing and hang in there! It will get better! I'm here for ya if you need me!

Chicken breast makes me feel awful. I Have found that any really lean meat, like chicken breast, lean pork and ff cold cuts just make my stomach ache. My doctor said that it is because they are such dense proteins. Have you had any luck with fish? I find that salmon and white fish really agree with me and my pouch.
Sorry you feels so bad..............................Jen

You're not alone. I still can't tolerate solids well either. The hard part is, what works fine one day makes me extremely nauseated the next. I can never tell what will work. I'm still doing two liquid meals and one solid meal per day per my surgeon's orders. He wants to be sure I get all of my protein in and keep it down since I can't do solids. Like you, I'm fine only a couple of days per week, then the others I feel so sick.
I don't think they're telling you it's all in your head. I think they just mean you don't have a stricture or ulcer. That's good. Intolerance to solids is one of the many complications of this surgery. Some people have it, and some people don't. I guess we're just lucky.
I saw my surgeon last week. He's concerned that I'm still having problems, and says to let him know if it gets worse, to call him in 6 weeks for an update, and otherwise, see him again in 3 months. He said that if this doesn't get better soon, he'll have to scope me again, just to be sure everything is okay down there. I'd rather every day, thanks. I don't want another scope. They're easy, but I hate them now.
In the meantime, I just eat the things that I know go down easily for me (like shrimp), re-try foods that didn't work last week, in case it's changed yet again, give myself permission to eat lots of SF popsicles in exchange for not being able to eat, and enjoy the good things that have come with the surgery.
Just know you're not alone!

You are NOT alone in this one. I'm not doing so well in the eating department.
I've been hospitalized twice since surgery for nausea/vomiting/gagging/dry heaves...............take your pick on which every day!!!!! Did the scope/CAT scan everything......and he says it's all ok. He did tell me that if the nausea doesn't stop he will be inserting a feeding tube in my side. NO WAY!!!!! I have been trying soooo hard since then to get my food down.
Can't say I'm "eating 1200 cals/3 meals a day", but I try everyday. Some days I can eat a little, like today. (today was a good day) but usually I don't eat at all.
I have learned that before I eat I have to RELAX and take my time. I get a little anxious before I eat now, because of the "what if's". So I guess my advice is:
Take your time
Eat slow
Relax.
Good Luck and maybe tomorrow will be a "good" day for both of us!!!!

I'm right there with you to girl. Only a couple of days out of the week or sometimes every two weeks can I actually enjoy eating. It really gets to me some days. I haven't bothered to talk to my surgeon about it even though everyone keeps telling me to call him. I figure that he will tell me the same thing, "there's nothing wrong with you."
Hopefully this will clear up soon. Hang in there girl!
Dear Laurie,
Maybe you are not far off when you say you feel like crap!!! Could your problem be full bowels?... I know when I'm away from home, traveling or having a very busy weekend, I don't follow my schedule. I rush thru routines and I don't drink enough liquid.
This weekend I drank a ton of coffee (I know, I know)... Last night and today, my stomach feels crampy.... At first I thought I ate something too fast and my pouch was about to get grouchy... but the more I analyzed the feeling, I realized that the fullness was from my waist down.
I'm drinking like a fool now trying to re-hydrate my system. If I don't feel right by tomorrow, I'll go back to liquid SF CIB for a day or two.
Maybe I'll buy a good novel and hide myself away in the playroom bathroom for an hour or two.
Good luck to you....
I hope you feel better soon.

Laurie,
You're not alone by any means. I'm worried about getting protein because every time I try to eat meat, I get sick. Fish and seafood were okay for a while, but now shrimp bothers me too.
I'm getting my protein from dairy products, yogurt, cheese, cottage cheese, and beans.
My tummy does not like meat! It rebels every time!
I feel so much better with fruits/vegetables and the protein sources I listed above. I wonder when this will pass. I go for my 3 month check up next week. I'm 3 months post-op tomorrow and down 70 pounds. I am so thankful for that!
