Does anyone take Viactive for their calcium supp.?? I have been sooooo bad at NOT taking my vitamins I was at my PCP the other day and she let me try one and actually it tastes like a little choc. mint "treat"!!! So I went to Wally world bought the Viactive 500 +D+K. My question is should I take one or two a day. I'm almost 3mo out now. I also bought Flintstones Chewable with iron, since I'm having diff. swallowing the adult vit. and cut it in half. Yucko!!! And I found the sublingual B-12's there too. I'm hoping this will kick start my energy since I don't have any at all since surgery. I just want to So I should be good in the vitamin dept. for now!!! Carmella -75pounds in 3 months

My surgeon recommended Viactive. I take 2 per day. They're tasty little things, aren't they? ~Wanda

Please read my reply to Carmella. Viactivs do not have the right form of calcium for post-ops. Kathy

Viactive contains the wrong type of calcium for us post-ops. It is calcium carbonate. Calcium carbonate requires stomach acids for absorption. Well, we have little or no stomach acids anymore - the part of the stomach that has the acid is separated off. The calcium that is best for post-ops is calcium citrate. I can point you to the NIH study that discusses calcium and which type is best for folks that had stomach surgeries if you'd like. Kathy

Hi Kathy, Do you have a good calcium supp. (by name) that would be better for me to take? I bought the chewable caltrate, and that is soooo nasty to chew up!!!! Any suggestions would help me. Carmella

I actually like the Twinlabs Chewable Calcium Citrate wafers. To me, they somewhat like sweet tarts. Others will probably strongly disagree. LOL! I have a few others that our nutritionist recommended and they aren't citrate but they aren't carbonate either. They are gluconate or something like that. One is Crystal Calcium that is a powder you can mix in any liquid. Another is some liquid calcium stuff...pina colada flavor. But I tend to stick with the citrate wafers. Easy to take and as I said - I like 'me. The Bariatric Advantage ones that are chocolate or cinnamon aren't bad at all. I had gotten samples of them and didn't mind their taste. They are citrate too. Carmella, The only chewable calcium citrate that I like is the brand "Solaray", I get it at a health food store called "Wild Oats." Lori

Carmella, I use chewable calicum citrate from baratricadvantage.com. They have chocolate mint, cinnamon and one other flavor I believe. Dawn

Carmella, I am just about 3 months out myself, and I am bad in the vitamin dept. as well. However, my dr. did say that viactive is fine to take for calium. I chew about 3 a day. I take one b12 a day under my tongue, and i take vitaball multi vitamins but is gum.. they are awesome if you like gum good luck Michelle Clark
