Can't shake this feeling.
I don't usually post but lurk daily. I don't know what is wrong with me, I just seem to sink lower in my sadness. I know I shouldn't compare myself to others but I'm a real slow loser. I have my 3 month appointment tomorrow, I thought it was next week and I had another week to lose more before seeing the Dr. I had such great plans to exercise before the surgery. To take advantage of the "honeymoon period" and I can't seem to follow through. I had a set back right out of surgery I developed a bad attack of gout and couldn't even walk let alone exercise, but that is gone now and I can't seem to get going. Does anyone else who is a slow loser not exercise?

1st off...define slow loser... when was your surg date? how much have you lost? how much do you need to lose(what was your starting weight)? the speed is affected by many things.
I notice if I miss one day of exercise, my weight loss slows down. I have been on a plateau for about a week and kicked my work outs up a bit and boom I was down 6 pounds in a week. Even if you cant do anything real strenuous because of pain, find any way you can to move more. If you have access to a nice warm pool you can maybe try some water aerobics. I purchased a membership from a local hotel and can use their pool, hot tub and workout room for $30.00 a month. And there are times a day that I have the pool to myself.
The water feels great and there is very little stress on those painful joints. I have RH and I have been amazed at what I can do in the water that I could never do on dry ground.
I was even doing a little River dancing last night in the pool. LOL
Dont give up!!! You have the tool to make this work.. Now get tough and make it happen.. You have the strength within you to do this!!!!
Hugs,
Laura
Hi Nancy!! Yep, I would classify myself as a slow loser! Each day seems to get bleaker and bleaker! My scale hasnt moved in over 4 weeks. I started out at 291 and was down 38 lbs at 2 months. Im now 3 months out TODAY!! and havent lost a single pound more. I dont weigh myself but once a week, so Im not a scale *****but I want to be! I want to lose 120 lbs to be down to 171. Im 5'9" and 27 years old with 10 years experience (actually, Im 37). Starting weight, height and age all have important impacts on weight loss. Its hard not to compare, but we all do.
I can only speak for myself and know that all of my intentions were good preop....but post op I havent exercised as much as I should. Sometimes I read on the board here about how everyone is so motivated and bouncing off the walls with their energy, weight loss, "wow" moments and I just want to scream.....instead I sit and cry. Sometimes drink a bottle of water or juice.......it helps. Not much, but some!
Our real expectations may have been too high when we had surgery. Maybe the best we can do is what we do each day. Maybe one day our little energy genie will show up and give us the extra boost we need. One thing I have come to the conclusion of is this.......my body is going to do what it wants to do. Eventually, because we are not physically able to take in enough calories to GAIN weight, we will lose. Those that have consistently lost will come to plateaus and we will be losing. Everyone has their turn. Some quicker, some longer and some never......but most of us run the same course sooner or later.
Exercise is important, not for weight loss, but to get our endorphins going and to help us feel better. To get out in the fresh air for 5 minutes, or to just simply move our limbs if you cant walk........anything to get our body moving is what works. Exercise doesnt mean you have to go to the gym every day (or 2 days a week for that matter), it just means you need to get your body moving.
I hope you are feeling better...........please email if you ever just want to talk. Things will get better!!! Lots of hugs to you!!!
