Becky, I set my own goal...I'd like to get down to 155lbs. I'm at 240 right now, but my surgeon seems to think that I'll be able to get to 155 no problem. We'll see how things unfold!! Becky 5/17/05 -70lbs @ 3 Mos Post Op!

Hello becky. I came up with my own goal weight and my surgeon seems fine with it. I am 5'8 and at I guess i should be somewhere between 145-160 or something like that. I came up with a160 because that would put me right at the high end of normal. For once in my life I would like to be normal. I have always been overweight and higher. But I would be happy with anything under 200. I started at a high weight and will be thankfull to get anywhere in the 100's. I will work hard though because I am very determined to get at my goal though. 411.5/389/332/160

Katie Z's post was right on target. My doctor figured out what my weight should be according to my height and then took my current preop weight and figured out 70-80% LOSS, which got me to be in the 150lb target range. This just happens to be exactly what I was personally going for myself. At 5'5" and being big boned I remember looking good at 150 lbs and feeling happy. I never planned on being really skinny, but just being a normal weight that I would be happy and satisfied. Hmmm, that's long ways off yet, I have 124 lbs to go. A whole small person...I will get there in time. ---Sabrina

BECKY, GOAL WEIGHT WELL FROM EXPERIENCE I KNOW WHAT GOAL I WANT TO BE I AM ALSO 5'7 AND JUST LAST YEAR BEFORE MY SON WAS BORN I WAS 170LBS AND I LOOK GOOD DANM GOOD FELT PRETTY GOOD I LOVE TO HAVE A LITTLE MEAT ON ME SO I WAS FINE AND PEOPLE THOUGHT I WEIGH 150ISH..O.K. NOW 150LBS I WAS THAT TWO YEARS AGO AND I WAS CONSIDERED SKINNY AND I LOOKED VERY SMALL MY HIPS AND BOOBS WAS GONE DEFLATED..LOL. SO TO TELL THE TRUTH YOUR DOCTOR IS RIGHT 170LBS MIGHT BE YOUR GOAL JUST WAIT AND SEE BEFORE YOU ATTEMPT TO PUT A NUMBER ON IT BECAUSE WHEN YOUR BIGGER LOSING DOWN TO 170LBS YOU LOOK MUCH SMALLER. BUT TO ANSWER YOUR QUESTION MY GOAL IS 160LBS RIGHT IN BETWEEN. TRACEY,

I was waiting on this Becky, its funny, cause people are saying that they don't want me to lose anymore...as if they have anything to do with it. Anyway my ultimate goal would be 140-150...thats what I'm shooting for. Doc has me at 125-135...we'll see

HI everyone. I think my goal should be about 170 my Dr. said 185 and probably another 15 with plastics. I think that is where I would look and feel the best. The reason I thought 170 was because that was 200 pounds from my highest, at the time I set it, I felt sure that it would be impossible to lose more than 200 pounds. I won't set it on my HS weight because I was about 240 then. In college I lost 100 pounds on optifast and people thought I looked like a concentration camp victim. So even though it is a million years after optifast weight loss, I still think 170 would be best. Thanks for asking the question and thanks everyone for sharing. Julie

Well, my Doc never set a goal for me (I'll ask him at my six month checkup). However, I personally set my goal at 150. Now I'm beginning to question if I really should have done that because lately I've been TERRIFIED that I won't be able to reach it and I would feel like a failure . According to most studies, people generally only lose about 70-80% of their excess weight. When I plugged my numbers into the weight loss planner, here is what I get: 70% of excess lost - 186lbs final weight 80% of excess lost - 174lbs final weight 90% of excess lost - 163lbs final weight 100% of excess lost - 151lbs When I look at my BMI, if I can make it to 164lbs final weight, then I will be back in the healthy range. I am big boned as they call it, but I still can't get the number 150 outta my head . Maybe I should rethink my goal of 150. I am big boned as they call it, but I also want to make sure that my BMI is in the healthly range.

I just used my "normal" BMI for my goal. I would be happy to get to 147 (at the high end) but would love to get to 136.5...that's exactly half of what I originally weighed. 135 would be nice too, that's what I weighed when I got married. I think any lower wouldn't be right for me. I still have quite a ways to go yet though, I'm currently 228.

I asked my surgeon at my 2 month visit what his goal was for me and he said 200, I about pee'd my pants and fell out of my chair. I thought there was no way that was normal! My personal goal is to get to 171, thats 120 lb weight loss from my starting 291 day before surgery. Thats the most I have ever weighed. I dont even have a clue what I weighed in hs and I have never been married, so I dont have a wedding date weight! ha! The surgeon assured me that I will be happy around 200. Fact of the matter is......I have accomplished 4 of the 5 goals I wanted to and Im just about 3 months post op. I no longer take any diabetes meds. I no longer take any blood pressure beds. I sleep through the night without any ambien or cpap and I feel rested in the morning. I can feel my toes a little more now. The fifth goal is to be able to look in the mirror and like who I see. Im still working on that one. Someday! Carrie
