How on earth is everyone getting in 70 grams of protein a day. I just got some protein powder and when I make a smoothie, it is usually right around 33 grams of protein. I cant imagine drinking 2 of these a day and the food i eat with protein in it is hard to calculate if I cna only have a few bites. I have lost so much hair. Will protein make it grow back?

Hi It's very possible for you to get in 70 grams or more of protein a day. I have 2 protein drinks a day which total 46g of protein. I try in stick to foods HIGH in protein such as fish, shrimp, and chicken. By eating at least 3 meals a day that have 13g of protein or more...you are at your goal of 70 or more. At one point I WAS NOT ABLE to get in all my protein (in the very beginning) but when I sat down and put my best foot forward, and planned my meals with high protein foods I did it, and really by drinking the protein drinks, you are already half way there. I have heard that prtein does help stop the hair loos, and YOUR HAIR WILL GROW BACK. Are you taking any hair supplements? ......GOOD LUCK

Hey there! I have hardly had a problem ever getting in my protein, except the days where I just can hardly bare to eat anything. The first couple of weeks post op I drank alot of carnation instant breakfast with dry milk and made with skim milk. It gave me about 20 g protein! I couldnt choke down the protein drinks. no way no how! Choosing foods high in protein now, since we are so soon post op, are our best choices. It is possible to get in the protein with just food, you just have to eat a little bit every few hours. Which brings up another question....... I will post it later......... Carrie

Your hair loss will reverse itself. Give it time. The hair loss is due to the stress on your body of losing so much weight so quickly. I had the hair loss in 1988 following Weigh****chers and I was getting my protein then too. My hair stayed thin for a few months then started filling back in. I changed nothing. The condition is called telogen effluvium. Read about it on the net. There really isn't much you can do to help it other than give it time. And yes, my hair is thinning now too. I take 3 protein supplements a day for about 90 grams of protein. Kathy

I have to agree with Kathy on the stress. My doc says most think hair is related to protein intake but he has seen many patients who rack in their protein grams, take biotin, etc. and STILL lose hair. I had a huge weight loss many years ago and I did not lose any hair. I'm not losing any yet and I'm hoping my hair will stay in place as it did long ago. I'm stressed about losing it because I've grown my hair out since last year and I don't want to cut it! But I'm willing to take it as it often comes with the territory. Good luck to you. Talk with your dr. about the loss.
