Before 30...

So, I turn 29 in a little over a week, which has really gotten me thinking about turning 30. In fact, one of the reasons I got this surgery was because I KNEW I did not want to go into another decade feeling fat and unhealthy. Before I turn 30, (August 16, 2006) my biggest goal is to be at a healthy weight (preferably my goal weight of 165, but I'll take healthy!). I've also been seriously thinking about putting together a list of other things I should try before I'm thirty. While I've done a lot already in my life, I feel like there are a lot of things I haven't even tried because I've always been overweight and felt too fat to do it. I know many of you have made a lists of accomplishments you'd like to make with WLS, and some of you have even crossed (ever so slightly!) the 30 threshold. Any advise about what sorts of things I should put on my list of things to do/try before I'm thirty? (Doesn't have to be WLS related) Thanks in advance for your help! Jem 326.5/270/165

I remember very clearly turning 29. For some reason, it hit me way harder than I would have expected, and really, was more difficult than actually turning 30. My best friend was the same way. Bawled through 29, shrugged through 30... The funny part is, I used to make fun of people who got uptight about turning a particular age.... No suggestions, really, but I do have a "to-do" list on my profile. Really, my only recommendation is that everything you put on the list should be for YOU.

Thanks for the commisseration. I don't know what it is about 30--it's not that I'm not looking forward to it or dreading it, but more that it seems like such an important milestone to have your crap together. I can't wait to hit the other side of Fashion Bug too, although I think once I get there, I'd rather be shopping at the Gap or those other mall stores that I've never been able to shop in!! Thanks again. Jem 326.5/270/165

Ah, yes. The big 3-0. I was fine right up until the week before and then AACCCKKKK! Really, though, the 30s are the best. I just turned 31 in June, and I'm loving it so far. I feel so much more "together" now than I did in my 20s. I know exactly what I want, and I am working toward all my goals steadily. Sounds like you have the right idea with making a list of the things you want to accomplish...but why make it things to accomplish by age 30? Keep right on going and make it things you want to do...the possibilities are endless. Of course, it's good to have short term goals...but I just think if you make turning 30 into the finish line...you'll freak out if you don't get it all done. Besides...life doesn't end at 30. Trust me! Julie P.S. Enjoy your year of wonders!

I'm 31 and I didn't have big plans to get done before 30. I actually look forward to the next phase of my life. It was hard to believe that I was no longer in my 20s, but it never "bothered" me when I turned 29 or 30. I've got a great career that provides for my family; I have a terrific, supportive wife whom I love more now than ever; I have 3 great kids whom I enjoy (most days!); I have lost over 100 lbs. and more is falling off everyday; and most important, I have a relationship with Jesus Christ that will carry me from 31 to ????. Anything I could list would pale in comparison to those things, so I'm quite happy.

Jem, I'm one of the ones that is "slightly" over 30. Yea right. I don't necessarily set goals by age. I have things that I want to do in my life...a life list instead of a do-it-before-I-die list. LOL! I think creating a journal with pages of things you want to do and then writing in next to it the date of the day you do it and perhaps a photograph to document it would be cool! Kathy
