Good Morning to Everyone, I don't know what happened but yesterday I was hungry all day it was like I could not get satifaction from anything. I usually consume between 600-800 calories a day and I monitor with Fitday.com, but yesterday I consumed over 1000 calories (1153 to be exact) even though I got in over 80g of protein it was a lot of carbs and fat as well. I am very concerned that I have stretched my poor pouch I am afraid to eat anything at all today. Has this happened to any one else? If so how do you handle it? Andrea

This is true prior to surgery for me...but if I eat a good quantity of carbs - I crave them and have more of an appetite. Please do eat today! Just focus on your proteins and you'll be fine! Kathy

Like the 12 steppers, it's one day at a time baby. So you went overboard yesterday. Accept it, deal with it and move on. Tommorow is another day! Take care, J

Andrea - I felt EXACTLY the same way yesterday!! (My surgery was 2 days before yours) I just felt as though I could have eaten all day! I had snacked on low carb peach chunks, extra veggies with dinner, and then again on triscuits. But that is the first day that I ever felt that way - like snacking. I did not over do it, my pouch never hurt. I couldn't understand how I could eat that extra stuff and not feel anything! I don't think you can stretch you pouch without the pain of overeating. I thought that my appetite was coming back full force, and that scared me - but I don't feel the need to snack like that today, plus I lost another 2lbs. Maybe our bodies just needed something?

Must've been something in the air! I ate quite a few more calories than usual yesterday, too!! I had 1244!!! BUT, I had 1/4 cup of almonds and 2 oz of peanuts yesterday which was about 500 of those calories. I had a 21 grams of protein bar which was 210 calories. I got in 99 grams/protein, but a good deal of fat, too - 44 from the nuts alone (which, granted it was good fat from the nuts, but a lot of fat none-the-less). In reality, I didn't eat a lot of food yesterday. Here's my breakdown: B: protein bar (210 cal/6 fat/21 protein) L: 1/4 cup almonds (170 cal/16 fat/6 protein), and 1 string cheese (80 cal/6 fat/7 protein) S: Smoothy: Isopure Strawberrys and Cream - 1/2 of it (150 cal/0 fat/25 protein) S: 1 cup OJ (105 cal/0 fat/1 protein) - took with my iron D: 3 oz albacore tuna (100 cal/1 fat/22 protein), 1 tbsp lite mayo (50 cal/5 fat/0 protein), 4 ff saltines (49 cal/0 fat/1 protein) S: 2 oz peanuts (329 cal/28 fat/15 protein) Total: 1244 cal/62 fat/99 protein To be honest, the only reason I ate the peanuts is because I miscalculated my protein for the day. I only put in ONE oz of tuna instead of 3 and so I thought my protein was low, so I ate the peanuts for the protein's sake. I see the peanuts are not the greatest source of protein. The calorie count isn't justified for the amount of protein you get with it. Michelle

Oh my go**** seems to be such a common fear that we are going to stretch our pouch out! Dont worry! The only way you will be able to stretch it out is to overeat (and by that I mean eat until you get vomitty sick) for many months straight and every day! Our stomachs are soft tissue (or so this is what healthcare professionals have told me) and that it is natural that it will stretch some. We will be able to eventually eat normal portions in about a year. So, from now until then we will be able to eat more and more.....we just have to make better, healthier choices. Does anyone ever ask their doc or dieticians actually how many calories post op we absorb? Its something like 75%, according to my surgeon and my dietician. I have also asked a surgeon at Barix Clinics....same info (just to double check my surgeon, to see if information is consistent). So if we eat 100 calories, our bodies only absorb 75 of them. So, if you are eating 800 calories a day you are really only absorbing 600 of them. Does that make any sense? I hope that some of this info helps to settle the nerves some. I was so paranoid that a week post op I could eat 6 oz of yogurt within 20 minutes! Thats where I learned about the stretching of the pouch and calorie absorbtion. I would be interested to hear from others about what their docs have to say about this........... Carrie

Thank you all for sharing your fears, I have felt the same way as each and everyone of you. My doc gave me good news about the stretching of the pouch and it pretty much=what Carrie said

I'm so glad you asked this question, because I have felt the same way for the past couple of days. I've been on a kick with refried beans lately, and since I can now eat more than I used to be able to eat, I was shocked when I saw that I was up so high with my caloric intake (over 1100 calories!!). Luckily, the beans are a great source of protein, and they're a nice soft food that I can actually eat, so I don't feel tooooo bad. Especially since I'm still not tolerating solids. I need to eat!!!! Now, if I could just stop with the SF popsicles already! Julie

I have had this worry myself, it seems on some days I can eat more than I should but I find that it doesnt last and then I can eat smaller portions again. Today I gave away the jar of peanuts I had on my desk because I was worried I was eating too many, but then I thought before my surgery that jar would have been gone in two days yet I have had that same jar almost two weeks, I guess I am just afraid cause I can finally eat it feels like I am doing somthing wrong.
