70 Big Ones!

Finally something notable. I'm down 70 lbs since mid-February and the start of my pre-op diet. That is 32 lbs pre-op and 38 lbs since surgery. The weight is certainly not flying off by any stretch of the imagination but it is moving in the right direction so I'm reasonably pleased. I lost 25 lbs first month post-op and then a whopping 8 lbs month two. And now I'm down about 5 lbs in half of month three. So, I'm losing maybe 2 lbs a week. That's it. I admit I expected a bit more than that month two and figured it would taper more gradually. Oh well. Such is my body! I'm highly reactive to carbs and avoid them except for non-starchy vegies and lower carb fruits (melon, berries). I can eat 3 corn chips (low salt) or 2-3 crackers and have the scale jump up a couple of lbs. I'm serious about that. Small quantities of carbs like that usually don't get my carb cravings raging either which is good but I just cannot have the scale jump up like that even temporarily. So, I'm in carb avoidance mode. Sucks but what can I do...protein, protein and more protein. LOL! I probably haven't weighed this amount since 1991-92 on my way up to the 230s and eventually much higher. I'm at 206 now. 6.5 lbs to the Onderfuls. At the rate I'm going...I'll be there in the fall sometime! Kathy

Kathy, Woohoo!!!! Do you think it is the carbs or the salt that cause that? I do think carbs cause issues, but, I still believe in the "good carbs" vs. "bad carbs". Lori 384/322/170

I do know I'm very reactive to salt so I'm careful with that. But I do think it's carb and I should clarify that... I do eat non-starchy vegie type carbs and low-carb fruit (melon, berries) and don't seem to have issue with them. But I think it is the grain type that causes issue for me. Kathy

Congrats on the 70 pounds gone. That's great that you know what triggers your gains. I've never gained but I can sure go 4 days or more of staying at the same weight. I don't weigh daily but at least 3 times a week. I'm one of those that needs constant assurance that I'm not gaining, lol! I just love seeing the scale go down, down, down. The onderful club is amazing! We'd love to have you join. I'm only about 8 pounds away from joing the "overweight" club myself and I can't wait! My problem right now is getting back into the teaching groove. I'm trying to balance getting my classroom set up, taking kids to swimming class, taking the baby back and forth to my mom's, packing up all their gear, cleaning my house and trying to cook for my family. I have a wonderful husband but he doesn't get home until very late...which means he does more housework (fine by me). Now that school is starting soon I'm stressing about making time to pack all of our lunches and exercising. I'm a tad overwhelmed as you can tell. Yesterday I forgot my lunch and went 8 hours without food! Agh! I did however bring tons of water, so I kept hydrated, that's good. Okay, I'm rambling now Kathy. This should be a whole other post! lol But back to YOU!!! I'm so happy for you that you're doing so well. ana

Overwhelmed or not...you need to eat every 3-4 hours. Keep something in your desk or purse even if it is those cheese-peanut butter crackers. Beef jerky, soy chips, protein bars...something! Don't make me come there.... Things will settle into a nice routine again...just give it some time! Thanks, Ana! Kathy
