Doctor visit!
Sabrina, You are doing fantastic! I'll bet your doctor has never had this surgery and experienced what you have. You need to be proud of your loss -- you have every reason to be proud! Keep doing what you're doing and do not let your doctor or anyone else get you down. I'm proud of you and so are many many others. Keep up the good work!!!

Sabrina:
I too had surgery May 24th! I started out at 326.5 and have since lost 53.5 pounds. So, we had surgery on the same day, weighed within 10 pounds of the same weight at the time of surgery and are within 2 pounds of the same loss after surgery. If this isn't conclusive proof that you are on the right track and your doctor is a poopyhead, I don't know what is!!
You are doing great!! Don't be discouraged by Dr. Poopypants. My doctor said I should be losing 3-5 pounds a week. I weigh myself everyday (just because I love the statistics) and plug it into fit day. I've averaged 4 lbs/week--just exactly within my doc's recommended range.
In Conclusion:
1. You Rock! Gooooooo Sabrina!
2. Your Doctor is a poopyhead. Baaaaaad Doctor!
3. You Rock!

Hi Sabrina, I too had my surgery on the 24th of May. I'm only down 46 lbs. But am happy for the loss because I look and feel so much better!
Sometimes I worry and fret over the NUMBERS on the scale and feel tempted to believe I am a failure at this. As I read the many Mayers posts it seems we are all tempted to fear failure at times. Thank God for support!!!
Two things have come to my mind lately:
1) If some of us struggle with "slow losing" with so few calories plus the malabsorption...maybe that will help us to understand the easy gains in the past and the difficult losing histories even with strict diets. I think we have a metabolic syndrome that has always made losing very difficult.
2) Sadly, I have noticed that prejudice to the overweight seems to be the one pre-judging behavior that is socially acceptable in our society STILL!
I am very troubled that your doctor who performs wls has such a negative and abusive attitude.
I think his behavior was shaming and lacked both tack and reality.
Maybe he has alot of men patients who always seem to lose way faster than the gals.
Any professional health care worker who talks this way with their patients has FAILED to learn wise people skills.
Encouragement goes a long way.
We who are on this journey are very sensitive and we usually are our own worst critics.
We have suffered a lifetime of social and personal criticism and prejudice.
We have many hopes and dreams that via this wls tool, we may at long last be more healthy and look and feel good. And recieve some positive feedback and be treated with more respect and courtesy.
I am so sorry that you got such negative and unkind treatment.
We Mayers are here for you.
Be encouraged you are doing very well. Several pounds ahead of me.
I'll be praying that your heart will be comforted and lifted up.
A friend from my support group keeps encouraging me that " slow and steady wins the race".
P.S. Also the very low calorie intake may be a culprit to slowdown of metabolism. We hear that over and over again at our support group.
It sounds crazy but the fewer calories we take in can ( if the numbers are very low) can freeze up the losing instead of kick starting it.
Bless ya, you are worthy of respect and kindness.
M.
