Can YOU tell?

I know, I know, we aren't supposed to compare our weight loss to other people. I could go along with that, if I wasn't one of the slow losers !! Ugh, reality is when it happens to you. Anyway, I have posted my 10 week pics at the bottom of my profile. I have lost 45 lbs and feel so much better . But can you tell? Sometimes I feel like a different person, and other times I think I haven't made a dent in what I need to do. You know fat people can be so body dysmorphic !!

Thanks, Kathy! My surgeon reassured me that losing slower in the beginning is no indication that I won't lose successfully. My evil brain likes to trick me into believing that way though! I've kicked up the exercise though, and am committed to at least 30 minutes, everyday. I'm hoping that helps. Congratulations on your loss. I saw your post the other day that you and Rich have lost a whole person. That's pretty awesome. How great that you are getting healthy together. Best, Dina

Dina, We've not only lost a person but a good size one at that. LOL! Actually we've lost a person the size of my starting weight of 276. It totally amazes us both. He celebrates the one year anniversary of his surgery this coming week and we are having a small gathering to celebrate. It is definitely worth celebrating! I'm being patient on the weight loss. I have a very reactive body and to truly lose...I really have to avoid carbs. (I do fine with low carb vegies and fruits - it's the other stuff that is a problem.) I have to face it that I cannot even eat small quantities. If I do, the scale jumps up. I know it isn't true weight gain but more a "reaction" to them. Almost like an allergy. I am diabetic and insulin resistant. Apparently very resistant. Good to know so I can focus on getting the job done. I suspect I will never have a problem with continuing to lose beyond my goal or what I feel comfy at. Just add carbs! LOL! Thanks, Kathy

Kathy, I wonder if that is part of my problem. I was diagnosed diabetic in February. My sugar level has been great since surgery, but I was on a ketogenic fast pre-op (all meat, nothing else) and my levels were still elevated. Perhaps I should try a week of avoiding all carbs, save veggies, and see what happens. Tell Rich, happy re-birthday!! And I hope y'all have a great time at the party! Best, Dina

Dina, I would certainly good the low-carb thing a try. Limit yourself to some carbs from vegies and berries and melon (lower carb fruits). Of course, eat the carbs after your proteins. Our nutritionist stresses proteins first, then vegies, then fruits (non-starchy) and only then other carbs. I try not to get to the other carbs. Tonight's dinner was chicken breasts marinaded in southwest spices grilled and green beans w/ some butter and sliced almonds on top. Yummy, low carb and high protein. Thanks for the well wishes! I know how you feel, it's hard to be patient, isn't it? I think you look terrific - I can totally see a difference! By the way - I have (and am living in, outside of work...) the same pants you're wearing in the after pic....
