Best experimental food?
In our quest for protein, we've all at least considered some odd food combinations. So, what did you try that met your dietary requirements and was unexpectedly good? Any entertaining disasters?
I loved bubble tea as a pre-op, but it's not suitable for post-ops. For those not familiar with it, it's a tea-based beverage with tapioca balls (the "bubbles") and often has milk and/or flavorings. It's also known as boba tea, milk tea, or pearl tea, and is generally only found where there's a significant Chinese population. (the beverage was popularized in Taiwan and spread to North America a few years ago)
So today I mixed Nectar iced tea with milk. It was an accident - I grabbed the wrong canister and didn't notice until I'd dumped a scoop of powder into the milk. But... ta da! It's a high-protein, low-sugar bubble tea without the bubbles! My favorite flavors were almond and honeydew. Can't do much about the latter, but DaVinci makes an excellent sugar-free almond syrup, and I can experiment with their green apple, peach, and watermelon flavors as well... (I'm out of almond right now, but hazelnut non-bubble tea turned out to be yummy)
Worst experiment: a smoothie with plain yogurt, a banana, and Elite chocolate protein powder. I gagged it down because I needed the protein, but... ugh! It might have been okay with unflavored protein. I hate the taste of Elite chocolate, but there's still 1/3 of a canister left and I am too darned cheap to throw it out.
My husband mixes chocolate carb countdown with Isopure Zero Carb Dutch chocolate as a base. Then he adds in: a banana, a scoop of peanut butter (tastes good!), banana and peanut butter, Big Train low-carb mocha mix, Big Train low-carb caramel mix, then he has made combos with the mocha and the banana or with the mocha and the peanut butter, etc. OMGosh the combinations. Not all sound appealing but the man loves it.
