confused
I still have a problem with nausea so I am eating what sits well on THE POUCH. However... and I am a bit ashamed, I think I am eating too many carbs. My nutritionist said nothing more than 10 sugars but nothing about the carb count.
Does anyone have any info they can pass on to me about carbs. I know 60 grams of protein and 64 oz of water.
I am worried about failing in the long run and not losing all I can during this phase.
I started at 322 and weighed 266.5 on my scale this morning so I am losing.
I'm just feeling a bit overwhelmed today.
Thanks guys,
love yas,
Barb
Hey Kathy
I don't eat any bread yet, hurts THE POUCH. But cheese crackers sit so well and help calm the nausea, I have about a half of a serving size once a day. I have tried fitday to calculate but I have a hard time getting it to customize my servings. grrr...
My nut told me to watch the sugar, no more than 10g but sometimes the carbs on those items are in the 40-50 range, which seems like a lot to me.
I just wanna get it right....
I'm going to concentrate on the protein and veggies, like you. ( no salad for 3 months... I can't wait!)
Thanks,
love, Barb
Mmmm, cheese crackers!
When I was low-carbing pre-op and in 2003, I limited my carbs to 10 grams per meal and up to 10 for any snacks. Right now, I don't snack - just 3 meals and 2-3 protein supplements. Anyway, I found that 30-40 grams of carbs to work well for me. Hey, lost 32 lbs pre-op this year doing that and back in 2003 lost over 60 lbs.
Right now, I don't eat carbs much at all. I eat protein for my meals and I have some vegies which have carbs but that is about it. I don't really drink dairy (once in a while carb countdown with a protein shake) or eat much carby foods. I do once in a while have a few tortilla chips (yumm) or a few crackers but I try to minimize those. Haven't ventured much into fruit either.
One of the reasons I keep away from the carbs is blood sugars. Carbs raise them and I'm really rather fond of where they are now given my intake, exercise and my 1/2 of a 500 mg glucophage (metformin) daily. Eating more carbs would raise it so I'd rather ease into more carbs later on.
The 10 grams of sugar rule sounds like a good one. I haven't been eating much packaged foods so really haven't had to worry much about that one much yet. Also, I haven't had any protein bars. I'm a bit concerned about sugar alcohols and how my body will deal with them. I did okay on them pre-op except for those Russell Stover turtles...they gave me the most painful gas pains once. OMG, awful. One of these days I'll have something with a wee bit of sugar alcohol to see how I do and go from there. But I remember when low-carbing...I never seemed to lose as well when I was eating foods with sugar alcohols.
I am cleared for salads (no peels though) and let me tell you...they ROCK! Had some last night with grilled chicken and feta cheese. Delicious!
Hugs, Kathy
At my last support group meeting, they were saying that for a 1000 cal diet, you should get no more than 145 gr of carbs and at least 10 gr of fiber and no more than 10 gr of sugars. This was on the maintenance diet. My surgeon's office told me to eat 2 to 3 bites of protein to 1 bite of carb. No big bites Anyway, if you are only eating 500 cal, I'd make sure you have no more than 70 gr of carbs though.
Thanks Jane,
You are such a dear to me!
I'm glad to hear we are on the same page... once again! LOL
I haven't tried tortillas, bread has not sat well... and thats the one thing I am really missing! A tomato sandwich sounds like a bit of heaven right now!! You eat that in cali??? ~giggle~
I'll write you later,
Love, Barb
