13 pounds to go!!!
Hi everyone. I'm only 13 pounds away from losing 100 lbs!!! I'm so excited. I had surgery on May 10, and I had to lose 35 lbs. before surgery and have lost a total of 87 as of this morning. It's unbelievable how much better I feel already. I still have a long way to go because my starting weight was 370 but I am already a new person. Physically, socially, emotionally, etc. I am also losing some hair, but am getting all the protein I'm supposed to and all my vitamins. I think it just happens because of the mal-absorption.
I will update when I reach the 100lb. mark!!!!!

The hair loss is actually not necessarily due to malabsorption. It is actually due to the big stress on your body of losing 87 lbs in a relatively short period of time. I did the hair loss thing in the late 80s following Weigh****chers program - and we know that isn't super low calorie or low protein either. I sought medical answers and was told that losing weight fast stresses the body and the body reacts by changing it's hair cycles. Normally 90% of hair is growing and 10% is resting at any given time. WHen the body is stressed, these percentages can shift. The hair loss isn't like male pattern baldness where the hair thins at the top of the head, it is even all over but obviously is much more noticeable at the top of your head near a part. The condition is called telogen effluvium.
Like you, I lose weight before surgery. For me, it was 32 lbs pre-op and now 36.5 lbs since surgery for a total of 68.5 lbs (since mid-Feb). I'm just starting to notice loose hairs. Oh boy! Guess I've get to go through thinning hair again. At least, I know that a few months down the road - it will start improving.
Congrats on all the wonderful positive changes. Congrats on being in the Twottervilles (200s). And finally - I cannot wait to share in your joining the Century Club!
Best wishes, Kathy
