Well..........It's official. My gallbladder is coming out on Wednesday. Yeeaahhhh......another surgery to look forward to. Happy Birthday to me!!!!!! As you can see, I'm being sarcastic....I'm not really happy about this. Heck, didn't I just get over surgery??? Like 2 months ago??? I tried to talk the surgeon into taking out my appendix while she was in there....just incase it decides it wants to go bad, but she said no....darn. The crazy this is, I go in to have my gallbladder out on Wednesday and then I have to go back the next day to have that EGD (down the throat thing) done. I have to be put to sleep 2 days in a row. The doc said it will be fine, but I think they should just do it all at the same time. Ohhhh well....such is life. Does anyone know if I'm going to have to be on a medication for the rest of my life since I'm not going to have a gallbladder? Thanks, Depsy

I don't think you need any medication if you have your gallbladder out. My mother had hers out a zillions years ago and no meds. I'm on gallbladder meds now to prevent it from going bad. (Hope it works!) Were you on meds since your WLS? The anesthesia for the EGD is very light. Easy to come out of and recover from. Sorry you have to have additional surgery but I want to wish you good luck with everything! Best wishes, Kathy

Depsy, my surgeon took my rotten gallbladder out when he did my RNY. Best thing that's happened to my body in years!!! I don't miss the pain and discomfort it caused me. I don't take any meds for it being gone. As a matter of fact, fattier foods don't bother me AT ALL now. Nada. Why can't they do both procedures at the same time? Becky Jean

Hey Depsy, I've been without my gallbladder for 8 years. I had it removed when I was 22 via lap. surgery. It similar to rny surgery in that the incisions are practically the same as is the healing...I remember for two weeks I was very tired after the removal. I wasn't so tired with rny just sorer. They give you similar pain killers too. The two years before the removal I was always having tummy problems. Six months prior I shed 60 pounds quickly and that's when the major pains started. So it was a relief to have it out. I don't think any gallbladder removals require life long meds. Your g.bladder store bile your liver makes. Now the liver will continue to make it but they tell you to avoid fatty foods, fried foods, etc. Good luck and best wishes to you.

I had my gallbladder out in Feb and then 3 months later had my WLS. I was so much better when I got that thing removed. I am not on any meds because of lack of the gallbladder..just feel 100% better...best of luck Patti

Depsy - I had my gall bladder out 12 years ago and had nothing that I had to do about it. I had diarrhea afterwards for all of those 12 years up until I had my WLS. Then it stopped!

Mine was taken out with my WLS. I guess I'm greatful.... cause I don't ever want another surgery in my life... unless of course it's a C-Section for my someday baby. :D Shannon in WI
