Shannon, I am sending up prayers for you. I remember other posts that you've done and I always say a little prayer for all of us and I purposely mention your name. Hang in there and a change will come. Don't forget to contact your surgeon. Take Care of yourself.

I had my surgery May 10th and have also had a rough time of it and have felt the same way you did. However before the surgery I was killing myself as I was type 2 diabetic (which is gone now) I went back to work after 3 weeks post op and was there a week and then got really sick. I have had blood work a cat scan xrays and they even thought I had hepatiis (thank goodness that turned out negative). While in surgery I had a hernia repaired and the doctor says that I must have an inflamation and it is taking longer for that to heal. I am back at work although I left today because I had a real bad case of the runs and stomach cramping. I have come to the conclusion that although they say I can eat real food now (with the exception of the bad stuff) that not everything is going to be accepted by my body .. So it is trial and error .. AND PLEASE BELIEVE YOUR HUSBAND WHEN HE SAYS IT WILL GET BETTER.. YOU HAVE TO BELEIVE THAT!!!!!

Shannon, First off let me say do not feel alone I have said the same thing! I have had 3 strictures and every time I started to feel good it hit again. After the second one I felt sick pretty much 24/7 I made a trip to the local health food store to look for new things to try to eat and they told me to try ginger, I bought these things called ginger trips for people who get car sick they are chewable ginger tablets and taste pretty good. Those helped alot! You may want to give it a try. As far as the food if nothing is staying down and it is getting worse, then you may have a stricture and should go be checked right away, I kept listening to everyone telling me to eat smaller bites and chew more and by the time I went to the ER my opening was almost closed! You mentioned the mashed potatos not having protein, if you can keep them down just add some flavorless protein to them I bought some MLO Veg. Protein, it has 17 grams in 2tbsp and has no flavor I add it to soup too, my latest thing is tomato soup with carb milk which has 12g of protien in 8oz with the powder tastes good and is easy to get down. I wish you lots of luck and know while it doesnt seem like it right now it will get better! Lots of luck to you! Cary

my friend had surgery 1 week before me and she felt the same way but she didnt follow what the dr. told her. she thought she could just sit and eat with her family and chew it up small. Did you puree your food and make it runny for the first 2 months? I told her I drink my water with a straw I bite the end and drink it really slow. If I lay on the couch the cup is right infront of me and the straw is in my mouth until I get the water in. You need to make sure that you are taking at least 15 to 25 min to eat or drink. She went back to pureeing her food and sipping from a straw and she is doing great now. we are both just at 2 months and just now on solids. I know they do things different over here Belgium but I think maybe if you puree your food it might help and take small bites and make sure you take a long time to eat it. (((((((hugs))))))) I am not trying to tell you what to do but trying to help. if the food feels like a brick sitting on your chest your eating to fast ok. please take care and I hope this helps Vicki

Shannon, I am having the same problems you are. I just got home from the doc today and I have thrush all down my throat and into my pouch. He started me on meds for it so I hope it works. Please if you havent already, Call your surgeon. Not your PCP but the one who cut the whole in you. He knows better than anyone else what should and should not be happening. Kat
