Over the plateau for now
I wanted to share my news with all my May sisters and brothers. I went to the surgeon's appointment Tuesday and found I had lost 15 more pounds since my two week post-op visit. I was impressed to say the least. The surgeon asked me what a regular day consisted of with meals and I told him. He was concerned I was eating a full taco at one meal setting. He was afraid I might be stretching out the newly formed pouch. I told him there is only 2 spoonfuls of hamburger and two spoonfuls of refried beans in a corn tortilla. He then asked if I was satisfied and how long before I was hungry again.
Is anyone else eating like this? And here I thought I was eating pretty decent, now I am a little concerned. There are some things I can only have a few bites of and yet others I can eat more of. I do not snack, but eat three meals a day trying to acquire my 60-70 grams of protein daily. I do not believe I am taking in more than 800 calories a day which the surgeon stated he wanted between 600-800 calorie count daily.
I weighed myself today at work, on a scale like at the surgeons office, and I am down 6 more pounds. I have three more pounds until I hit my short term goal of 250. I should think if I am continuing to lose weight and inches, all is normal?
When I told my surgeon at my 6 week checkup that I was taking in about 700-750 calories/day he wasn't happy until I told him that about 300-350 of it was JUST protein drinks. Then he was a little more okay with it. If you're losing weight and doing all the things you're supposed to, I think you're okay. But best advice, do what your surgeon says. Call him up and ask him if you should be doing things differently and if so, do it differently.

The challenge comes later... months after post-op.
By then, you will weigh less and have to burn MORE calories just to lose the same amount of pounds each week/day.
My surgeon indicated 3 meals a day no snacks... well heck, I couldn't do that at first. So I nibbled a little when my tummy felt quezy. As I became stronger, I began eating on schedule.
Now I have three meals a day. Virtually no snacks. I prefer taking 300-600 calories a day a stretching them out rather than 200, 200, 200 and being hungry.
YES I STAY HUNGRY. So, whoever said WLS helps you not be hungry just isn't in my skin.
You're losing now with 600 calories a day. Your lose will slow down, but perhaps then you can work out to counterbalance those calories. Anyway, BEST WISHES.
Thanks for the words of wisdom Pat. You have hungar pains? I still have none. I have to force myself the three meals stopping when I feel full. I can go all day without eating if I had too. They say the hungar returns at about six months. I am now eating three meals a day with no snacks in between and I just joined fitday.com and found out I am getting between 600-800 calories a day. I feel good knowing it is no more than that especially when the surgeon was concerned I was eating a whole taco at one setting.
