9 wks out and discouraged

hey there may folks, today is my ninth week out and i have lost 36 pounds as of today. im starting to get discouraged here a little because ive been really trying to keep my carbs low and now im really getting tired of the kinds of foods ive been eating. im afraid that if i do add more carbs that my weight loss will slow down or ill gain. i was only eating like about 30 or so carbs a day. im dying for some spagehtti or some vegetables or even a sandwhich. i dont know what i should do. i also have been exercising almost everyday for the past 3 or 4 wks and im getting tired of it, ive been walking on my treadmill as well as outdoors like for 2 miles, stairclimbing for 2 min each over the course of 15 min, riding my stationary bike for 30 min, something different everyday. ive really been at it good but im scared to stop for awhile or ill gain. let me admit im a slave to the scale, i weigh everyday but i dont freak out if i gain. i have a record of what i have weighed everyday since the day of surgery. please shed any advice on how or what i should do to resolve my delima. ive been so happy with my weight loss thus far, i dont want it to stop. candy

Hello there Candy I feel the same way as you. I have mentioned this is some post's in the past. People keep telling me that i am doing great. I guess I need to start beleiving them and continue what i am doing. I know some people have lost faster and at times it is very discourging to me but I am grateful I have lost as much as i have. i have been doing some added protein and jus****ching what i eat. I will keep plugging away at the gym and hope for the best. Keep your head up too. I guess it took us a while to put on the weight and I know i need to realize that it will take me a while to get off. Keep up your good work and we will get there some day soon. Brenda

Hi, I try to refer to the weight loss plan from obesityhelp.com located at http://www.obesityhelp.com/morbidobesity/postopplanner.phtml I have a range of goal weights. I always hope to stay within those ranges. I'm sick of gym as well.

Totally feel the same way I am eight weeks out and last time I went to the doctor I had only lost 41lbs. I thought since I weighed so much to start with and I have been working out I would have lost more and at a faster pace. I would be happy to even see a lost size without the weightloss but that hasn't happened either. sometimes I wonder if I will be the one person in a million the surgery won't help. Okay I'm over my whining now it's nice to know I'm not alone. I'll keep doing what I'm doing and hope that things will progress soon. My advice for you is keep doing what your doing it sounds as if you have everything in hand this will work for us we just have to be patient. I know patience who has any of that to spare. Well keep doing your thing and post about your progress.

Candy~ From what I've read on the main messageboard, your weight loss is considerable in this amount of time for a "light-weight." Looking at your profile, I see you started out at under 300 pounds, and those people do tend to lose a lot slower than those of us who are "heavy-weights." I read on the main board yesterday that people who start out under 300 lose more slowly, people 300-400 lose moderately, and 400+ lose rapidly (or something like those figures). Try not to compare yourself to others. I know that I (started out at 391) compare my weight loss to others sometimes and then, when I read their profiles, I find that they started out at over 600 pounds, so of course they've lost twice as much weight as me! Today, at my opthamology appointment, my dr asked me what my current weight was, and I started to tell him "two hundred and..." and then realized that I'm not even down that low yet...I'm still well over the 300 pound mark. I WISH I was in the two hundreds! Keep working! You truly are doing great. It may sound like a cliche around here, so let me say it again so maybe you'll believe me...you really are doing great, Candy! Julie

Candy, Like Julie said, you have to account for the fact that you don't have as much extra weight as others. Typically, a person will lose about 10% of their weight per month, for the first few months. The heavier you are, the more you're going to lose. Keep in mind the following: Are you measuring yourself? You'd be amazed how many inches you could be losing without dropping a pound. If you're adding muscle and losing fat, it may look like you're not losing much or evening gaining - muscle weighs more than fat, BUT the more muscle you have, the more fat your burn. Are you getting enough calories? Based on your exercise schedule, if you're not getting enough calories, your body could be holding on to everything it can because it thinks you're starving. Maybe upping the calories just a little will help? Are you getting enough water? If you don't think you're going to float away, try adding another 16 oz of water everyday. Water flushes fat. Anyway you look at it, 36 pounds is a huge success, I know I would never have been able to lose 36 pounds in 2 months. It took me almost 6 months on Atkins to lose that a couple of years ago. Please don't panic! If it makes you feel any better, I'm at the 10-week mark and am down only 25 pounds (started at 253, but at 4'10" I need to lose 135 to hit a normal BMI). How do your clothes feel? Have you lost sizes? Have you lost inches? I'm frustrated by the scale, but two weeks ago I couldn't zip up size 24 pants - now I'm wearing them comfortably, and the scale shows me a grand total loss of ONE stinkin' pound over those two weeks. Scales are evil and should be ignored. How are your calories? I'm slowly regaining my appetite but still have problems getting over 600 calories a day - at this stage that's probably too few (and probably explains my stalled weight loss). Considering how much exercise you're getting, you probably should aim for about 1000 calories a day, maybe even a bit more. If you want veggies, eat some veggies. Stick with healthier options like spinach or green beans. None of us here became morbidly obese from eating spinach and green beans.

my words EXACTLY! you could not have said it any better thann that! I thought that I was the only one.......But soooo many of us MAYERS..can relate to each other. I'm just going to continue to UP my PROTEIN and WATER and try to up the EXERCISE, when I have the energy...I have not been able to eat more than about 600 calories a day, and have been told by my doc that I need to eat more, but wouldn't that stall my weighloss even more? Anyway, lets just continue to do what we know is right.....hopefullt in the end it will pay off

I think you're doing great!! 36 lbs in 9 weeks is quite a lot of weight if you really think about it. Everybody is different, so don't beat yourself up comparing yourself to other people. You have been given a wonderful "tool" to help you get to your goal. Keep up the good work and you'll get to your goal!
