Pain?!?

For the last week or so, I have noticed I am able to eat a tiny bit more than I did before. I have attributed this to the swelling going down in the pouch, and really working hard to chew things slowly. Well, for the past 24 hours, my pouch has hurt like crazy. It's almost a burning sensation that doesn't find relief with food or water. At first I thought it was hunger, but I don't feel hunger! I just got back in town from a 13 hour trip back from texas, and will call my surgeon tomorrow, but I wanted opinions. Another weird thing is that I've had 48 ounces of water this evening, and have barely pee'd at all. Could I have a leak or something?? Thanks! Ashleigh PS. Sorry for the cross post, I'm really freaked out right now.

Ashleigh, Im so sorry you are having such pain. It**** or miss with us as we are seemingly at a place where most of the swelling has gone down and we are able to actually take in more food, or so we think. We are not going to be eating 2 ounces for the rest of our lives! Just think about normal portions for normal people.......in a year we have to be able to eat normally. Bringing in new foods is always a challenge. If your tummy is upset, I have been told to go on soft foods or liquids until it calms down. Then try something new again. It will get better when time goes by...... Its summertime and I think just about everyone retains water now. Its ok to not immediately discharge the liquids, our bodies are probably holding on to the liquids because it is so hot. ANd Im sure its feeling starved so it hold on to everything. Have you had any problems with swelling in your feet/ankles or your hands? Watch for that too.......sometimes too much sodium will keep waters in also. I hope you feel better soon.........let us know what happens with the doctor! Toodles........... Carrie

Hmm. Let us know what your surgeon says. It sounds almost like an ulcer to me. I've had the "beginnings of an ulcer" before, and that's what it felt like...burning in the stomach. Have you had any nausea with it? Are you taking Prilosec? My surgeon has me on that for the first three months, because he said that's when you're most likely to develop one. Anyway, good luck, and I hope you feel better!

I've been on Pepcid and Aciphex since surgery. I've had a couple of episodes of burning before, but this has remained pretty constant and gets worse when i try to sleep. I've not actually thrown up, but have felt really nauseated several times. I posted an update since I ended up at the ER last night. Hopefully my surgeon will have some answers tomorrow. Thanks again! Ashleigh

Carrie, You mentioned you were traveling, was it by plane? Flights dehydrate you....quite a bit. That could be why you havent peed much. Also, were you eating different in Texas? Maybe your pouch just didnt like something you ate. Janean

We drove 13 hours yesterday. I think I ended up drinking about 70 ounces total yesterday to stay hydrated in the heat. I didn't really eat much at all that was out of my norm. I did have some salsa a couple of times, but that was like tuesday and wednesday of last week! I'm baffled. The pain is still constant, but thankfully I have some pain meds now until i can get into the surgeon's office. Thanks again, Ashleigh
