another abcess!!!
Jim,
I'm so sorry that you've had so many difficulties! I hope you're finished with hospital stays and surgeries. I am confident that you will heal well now and you will soon experience the benefits of the original surgery. I will keep you in my thoughts and prayers. Please keep us posted on how you're doing...

A co-worker's wife went through the surgery about a year ago, and your stories sound sooooo similar! The first few months were so miserable for her that she regretted even THINKING of WLS! She ended up having four surgeries total to repair her abcess and hospitalizations to take care of various complications (including dehydration at one point). When I saw her the other day, she looked really great. Her color was back and she seemed to have lots of energy. I asked her if she still regretted having the surgery. She had to really stop and think about it (I'm not saying she didn't hesitate), but her ultimate answer was that she was glad to be on the other side of all of those hardships and that now her life was very fulfilling. She is now able to do so much that she knows wouldn't have been possible pre-op, that she had to say she didn't regret having the surgery anymore...only the complications. She says it was a learning experience, and it's allowed her to give a different perspective on WLS than many other people, and she's happy to share her experience (the good and the bad) with people who ask her about it.
Also, the WLS coordinator at the hospital where I had my surgery had many many complications (you name it, she had it), and she's come out on the other side looking and acting 20 years younger than she is. She's three years post-op and she looks awesome! She's very up front and honest when people ask her about WLS, and it seems to "scare away" the people who aren't truly interested in the surgery, and lets those who are know about all the risks involved. I think she's the perfect person to educate patients about WLS.
I don't know if any of this has helped, or if I'm just rambling nonsensibly, but I did want you to know that you're not alone.

One stricture, three repair procedures (albeit easy ones) since May 11th.
Jim,
I feel for you. I hate being in the hospital. 28 days, 3 surgeries, oh my gosh!!! I do so hope that you will come out on the good side of this and all this will be a distant (albeit unpleasant memory). I was so scared I'd have this kind of outcome before the surgery, I held off for 5 years because I was so scared. I have had no problems at all. But, I know what you are going through, we all could have went through, as this is part of the risk. I'm so sorry you are having to do this! I don't know exactly how to encourage you, but, please know that there are those of us here who care and will help in any way we can!

Jim, I am so sorry you are having such a difficult time. 28 days in hospital is more than anyone shuld have to bear, but God will give you the grace to endure this difficult time. Like everyone else said, it may be hard now, but you will look back on it and have few regrets. I will be praying for you. Hugs, Tracy
