Well, yesterday I had my 6 weeks check up. I have lost 33 pounds and I am happy for that! My doc and the nurse got on me about the protein and the inadequate amounts I am getting. I am around 35-40 a day, and that's not good. Well, to put the "sugar free icing on the sugar free cake" I went to the nutritionist appt next and she laid another bomb in my lap! She then told me of all the not so great things that will happen if I don't up my protein amounts. Well, I am scared, but I know that I have got to do something. I need help!!!! Also, she said only intake protein and limited veggies. She said no fruit or bread. I know that they want us to be successful, but I am getting a little nervous. I also think that I am lactose intolerant too. What are you guys eating for Breakfast, snacks, and dinner. I am curious. My doctor on the other hand says to see what I can tolerate, but keep protein at the for front of all meals. I thought I was doing o.k., but NOT! The nutritionist is very conservative. Well, please answer those questions about what you are eating and what has worked for you. I need some tips. Thank-You

I can feel your frustration. I had a big problem with getting my protein in and finding that I am lactose intolerant and couldn't stomach most of the lactose free products available. I now add one protein drink a day that is not milk based that can be added to any liquid. I try to focus mostly on protein. For breakfast to really up my protein I make scrambled eggs. I use 1/3cup of Egg beater and add about 1 oz of my favorite lunch meat (low fat smoked turkey or ham) and then herbs of my choice (13-15gr). I have personally have to keep the eggs pretty runny yet or otherwise I eat alot of chili and instead of adding a little sour cream to it I add a little cottage cheese, which really helps up the protein.(14-18gr). I also tolerate shrimp really well. I found going to the store and buying some precooked shrimp in the fish monger section and then seperating them in small portions and freezing them helps for a quick meal packed with loads of protein. (dip in Coctail sauce, watch the brands some are high in sugar and fat) I also eat quite a bit of tuna fish that is packed in water. (I never liked tuna to begin with but its something that stays down) I mix the tuna in fat free mayo and a little fat free sour cream and season. To mix it up I sometimes add mustard and horseradish or a really strange combination is with some mayo and Salsa. (these combinations are about 14-18gr per 2oz of tuna). These are somethings I have tried. Congratulations on your 33lbs, It's an awesome loss -Sabrina

Well, first off, here's a big ((((((((((HUG)))))))))))) Lakisha!! Here's a typical day for me: Breakfast is usually a smoothy (vanilla protein powder - 1-1/2 scoops (30 g/protein), some sort of frozen fruit, and a bit of crystal lite, propel, light fruit juice, or some other liquid). I have a very difficult time with milk as well, so I'm probably going to switch to soy. Sometimes for bfast I'll make an egg, but eggs don't sit too well with me either and I'd rather get the higher protein in. Lunch is usually deli turkey or ham and/or cheese, or canned chicken or tuna. The canned chicken is like 20 grams of protein and the tuna is pretty close to that, too. I may add a slice of cheese when I eat the canned chicken or tuna if I'm a bit more hungry. I will usually have another smoothy between lunch and dinner (fuzzy navel protein powder - 1-1/2 scoops (35 g/protein), frozen peaches, same liquids as above). Dinner consists of whatever the family is having if it's something I can eat (like chicken, the insides of a burrito or taco, salmon, etc.) and if not, then I'll eat something similar to lunch. If I've not had a smoothy between lunch and dinner, I'll add have one as an evening snack. If I have had a smoothy, I'll have some other sort of snack (soy crisps, cheese and crackers, sf pb and crackers, whatever). This way, I'm still getting in fruits, but they're in the smoothies with loads of protein. I'm not getting a whole lot in the way of veggies which bothers me, but I know that the protein is the most important. I take a good multi-vitamin (chewable Centrum), iron, and calcium, so I know I'm getting in my nutrients, but I still would like to be able to eat vegetables more. So, all in all, my typical protein for the day is around 85-100 g/day depending on my dinner/snack options. So, anyway, there's my typical day! I hope it helps!! Michelle

Lakisha, Congratulations on the 33 lbs. You had your surgery 1 day after I had mine, but, you've lost 4 more lbs. But, I say, good for you! I've done well with my protein, but, usually because I have at least one protein supplement a day, like a EAS carb control shake (15 g) or I make a blueberry shake that I add protein powder to. The recipe I use is 1 cup light soy milk (or sometimes I use plain yogurt) 1/2 frozen blueberries, 1/3 frozen banana, 1 Tb of Splenda, then 1 scoop of Isopure Creamy Vanilla protein powder (25 grams), the soy milk has another 7 grams. I'm trying to keep my carbs very low. Have you tried the fitday.com software yet? It really helps you stay on track with what you are taking in. The nutritionist is very correct about what low protein problems you can develop, so hopefully, you can try some of those suggestions. I have also purchased the Isopure zero carb juice drink. It has 40 grams of protein for 20 ounces. Since you can't absorb more than 30 grams, I drink 10 ounces at a time. Lori 384/335/170
