Anyone else experiencing this?
I had my surgery may 2nd and have had no real problems eating much of anything I tolerate pretty much everything well. Recently I have had almost abseloutly no appetite. the thought of food makes me so sick. and so I have been skipping meals ( bad I know) but when I do eat, everything is now making me nausous, nothing tastes good, and I get full way sooner than usual. I thought maybe it was the heat, has been getting into the 100's anyone have any Ideas?
Thanks,
Angie
That happened to my on June 2. It started the end of May. The 1st of June I couldn't keep anything down. It ended up the small intestine was totally closed at the bottom of my stomach so nothing was getting through at all. I had to go in and have an Upper endoscopy done to dialate it. It had to be dialated at the end of June also. My surgery was May 10. Good Luck!!
It's not just you - my surgery was May 3 and I'm going through exactly the same thing! My appetite is gone, gone, gone. My capacity has shrunk quite a bit - I used to be able to eat 1 cup of turkey chili for a meal, and now I can only manage 1/2 cup. I haven't been nauseous to the point of throwing up or even being close to it, but there's that weird uneasy feeling that lingers... (and this happens even after drinking plain water) It's very unsettling.
I have to force myself to eat - given the choice, I'd rather just sip tea and chicken broth instead of eating actual food.
Allegedly this is perfectly normal. Have you lost energy as well? Mine is on vacation with the appetite. I've read a lot here about hibernation mode, and that sounds like what I'm going through. I've increased my exercise and put myself on a feeding schedule to make sure I get enough protein and calories. I feel a little better now, but still not anywhere near how good I felt for the first 7.5 weeks after surgery.
Angie,
I had the same thing and it turns out it was a stricture AND an ulcer. It is worth calling your doc and see if they want to see you. You can check out my profile and see what I went through if you would like. I would not suggest waiting for it to get worse like I did. I just thought I was eating too fast or something. NOPE. Good luck and trust your instincts when you think things may not be right.

Hi, Angie - I'm a day after you surgery wise, but I've never really been able to tolerate much of anything. I mean, it doesn't make me nauseous or anything, but I feel full on 2 oz or so, but I eat a little more frequently because of it. I will eat like a smoothie for bfast (around 10), then a 3 oz can of chicken or tuna about 1 or 1:30, then a string cheese or something around 3:30 or 4, then a small amount of whatever the family is having for dinner around 6:30 and sometimes I'll have a smoothy again at night.
I found out today I've got reflux, so I'm not sure if that has anything to do with the fact that I'm not able to eat much more than 2 oz or so at a time (the 3 oz of chicken or tuna takes me about 30-45 min to eat) but as long as you're getting in your nutrients (vitamins), protein (even if it's liquid), and fluids, that's the most important thing.

Surely, Barb!!
One of my favorites is Nectar Fuzzy Navel (1-1/2 scoops) with 2 slices of frozen peaches cut up and about 1/2 - 1 cup of either Peach Propel, Crystal Light, or OJ (OJ does have more calories in it).
Some others are vanilla protein powder with any frozen fruit (depending on your preference) and a bit of propel, no calorie flavored water, crystal light, or Minute Maid Light juices.
Frozen fruit have been my saving grace when it comes to smoothies. They have made it so much easier to tolerate them and takes virtually ALL of the 'protein' flavor out of it.
Hope this helps!!
