delicate question
I know there have been a few posts about constipation, but I'm experiencing it in a way I never imagined. Before my surgery I'd probably experienced this once in my life, and that was as a child. (I'm 44) I typically had the opposite problem. In the last 3 weeks, I have not been able to go without a laxative. I've eliminated cheese from my diet completely. I'm taking additional fiber, increased my intake of lettuce and other veggies with fiber and eat a little fruit. Still no action occurring. Just curious if anyone else has this problem and has a good solution. I can live with it, but I'd rather be "regular". Thanks for any suggestions!

Hey, Wanda...
I take two Fiber Choice tablets a day and that seems to do the trick for me. I'm basically a once a day kind of gal since I've been post-op. Rare for me not to go every day.
How are you doing on fluids?
Rather than laxatives, what about stool softeners? Heard those are better. Name I've heard bantered about is "colace".
Best wishes, Kathy
HEY,
I HAD THE SAME PROBLEM MY FIRST MONTH.. AND I START EATING MORE FRUIT NOT ONLY THAT ARE YOU TAKING EXTRA IRON IF SO IT MAKES YOU CONSTIPATED AND YOU NEED TO TAKE A STOOL SOFTNER DAILY EVERYDAY..INSTEAD OF ME TAKING EXTRA IRON EVERYDAY I CUT IT TO TWICE A WEEK AND NOW I EAT MORE BANANAS AND FRUIT AND I TAKE A STOOL SOFTNER EVERYDAY..IF YOU DID NUMBER TWO AFTER SURGERY THEN YOU SHOULDN'T HAVE A PROBLEM WITH A BLOCKAGE BUT IF YOU DIDN'T THEN YOU MIGHT NEED TO CHECK WITH THE DOCTOR.OTHER THAN THAT YOU ARE FINE IT'S JUST THAT YOU HAVE NOTHING TO BOO-BOO OUT.!!!!!!!!!THAT'S WHAT THE DOC TOLD ME.
TAKE CARE,
TRACEY,
I've been constantly fighting this battle since surgery. I take a Colace (stool softener) once in the morning and once at night. Nuthin !!! I added a glycerin suppository.....got very little "action". Finally resorted to Milk of Magnesia and after two days of taking THAT I got results. Also lost 3 pounds !!! LOL I told my surgeon that Iron constipates me HORRIBLY...but she wouldn't listen. I take it every other day right now. I don't want to live on M.O.M......but my surgeon says anything with "fiber" like Metamucil or Fiber Choice is out of the question because it swells in the pouch.
