Energy Levels Soooo Low!
I have virtually NO energy.
I exercise everyday, but I'm wiped out after the warm-up! Before surgery I was doing aerobics for 45 minutes and strength training five times per week, now I have to struggle to make it through the warm-up before the actual workout even starts!
Today I was in the supermarket and I didn't have the strength to carry my purse. I had to put it in the cart, which is something I never do.
Taking a shower wears me out - I often have to stop and rest while washing.
Household chores are very difficult - I can't do anything without stopping to rest every few minutes.
And I collapse into bed every night at 8 or 8:30 otherwise, I can't function the next day.
Anyone else still struggling with low energy this far out?
I have days like that too. Some days I feel exhausted going up 1 flight of stairs, but some days it doesn't bother me at all. I take my vitamin B-12 everyday - and I really think that it helps a lot. I think those weary times have to do with food or lack there of. When I feel weak, I make sure to do lots of protien that day.
Hello everyone! Gosh....you always hear about everyone and how much energy they have on OH. I, like most of you, have struggled with not having energy at all! I keep walking and making sure my protein is high. And you are right, the days when I feel sluggish are the days my protein is down. What a difference that makes.
Keep moving! Keep drinking and keep up with the vitamins......sometimes so early after surgery its a struggle to eat enough, but if you keep taking the vitamins it wont be so bad! Soon you will be able to eat normal foods.....
Hi FFFC
I just recently read an article that talks about the hibernation period after weight loss surgery. Your body doesn't know what is going on, just that it is being starved. It has a safety mechanism that shuts down your energy level so that it can use any energy it does have to keep you alive.
This also adds to the depression many of us suffer. If you are depressed you don't feel like doing anything, thus saving even more energy.
After 8 weeks or so, the body says ok, I must start burning energy to 'hunt for food' (as in the days of our ancestors). Its at that point that you start feeling better, have more energy and your body will start burning fat. At this point protein is crucial to prevent our bodies from burning muscle too.
I'm not sure how scientific this all is but it sure made sense to me.
Just rest when your body says its time. Our time will come for the super burst of energy... I'm sure!

I'm a few weeks ahead of you (5/3) and I felt like that up until last week. However, last week I did up my B-12 also. I take 5000mcg two times a week. How much and how often are you taking B-12? I was only taking it on Friday mornings but now I take it on Tuesday and Friday and my energy has gone up dramatically. I could tell the difference with the 1st additional dose. Maybe suggest it to your doc to see if it's okay with him/her.

Hey Everyone. Thanks so much for your replies.
I just started solid foods this week and, yes, it is still a struggle to eat very much. Regarding vitamins, I am doing very well with those. My daily regimen is: multivitain, iron supplement, calcium supplement, sublingual B-12, and Biotin. I do okay with water, about 56 oz per day, but I could do better. I will acknowledge the protein is a problem area because I still can't tolerate supplements at all. I'm trying to get in as much as possible through foods; therefore, vegetables and healthy carbs are virtually non-existant in my diet. It's always a small serving of chicken or a small serving of fish. I also don't tolerate fruit at all.
Thanks again for your help! Hugs, Tracy
