Leave it to me to ask....BUT before surgery I was regular. Daily bowel movement every morning. Since surgery I go on average every 3 days! YIKES!!! Excuse me if you are sensitive to this type of topic, but I'VE GOT TO KNOW! My movements are light in color, sort of like a baby, and are soft but have shape. The only problem I have is not doing it daily. Is this normal for 35 days post-op??? Don't be shy, please let me know, I cannot get a specific answer from docs office!!!! FRUSTRATED!!!!
Hey! Pre-op I would go (honest to God) anywhere from 4 - 10 times a day! (Sometimes even more.) I had my gall bladder taken out 12 years ago and since then I've had diarrhea. I've only been going about every 2-3 days since surgery, too! And, if this surgery is worth nothing else, it's worth THAT!! I don't have to run to the bathroom everytime I eat something!

THANKS! I feel better always getting answers here from those going through the same thing. Always good to now I'm "normal"!
I have them daily; usually more than one per day. My stools are extremely loose - sometimes straight up diarrhea. It's always green although I don't eat green food. Could be the iron supplements, I guess.
I am tired of the diarrhea and plan to mention it to my surgeon when I have my six week check-up.
Dont worry, my surgeon's nutritionist said that if they are soft and formed and relatively easy to pass everything is fine. When you do have to worry is if they are black (blood) or are very hard to pass, both can be signs of a bowl obstruction wich we are more likly to get now. FYI about the previous post about the gall bladder removal: I had mine removed at the same time they did my RNY. Before I had to go 3-10 times a day with lots of pain. Now no pain and I go only once a day or two.
Just remember soft, formed and easy to pass.
P.S. the light color is from us not being able to absorb everything that our food has to offer.
This IS a very important subject because an obstruction can lead to death in anyone surgery or not.
Hope this helps!
I've been battling this myself since surgery. I"m a little more than one month post-op and seem to be constantly constipated !!! Was told by surgeon to try Colace (I'm taking two a day), glycerin suppositories (they don't work) or Milk of Magnesia (haven't tried it yet) but I'm STILL having problems. When I DO manage to "squeak one out" they are light in color and soft.
