Halfway There!
I've now lost 26 lbs since my surgery 5 weeks ago and that with my 32 lb pre-op weight loss is a total of 58 lbs. My goal (my number... don't know my doctor's goal) is 160. I'm 58 lbs from that number so I'm HALFWAY there! I'm so excited.
While I know I don't have as much weight to lose as many others... I've battled my weight my entire life. I weighed 156 lbs in 8th grade. My lowest adult weight was 167 for two days in 1983/1984 (I forget)... then I was back up inthe 170s for a while. Done lots of dieting up and down and then further up and so on. The story that many of you are so very familiar with!
I needed this surgery to get the weight off once and for all. I'm already off my high blood pressure meds and insulin. I no longer use my CPAP. I'm taking one glucophage for the time being (500 mg****il I get more weight off and then I will be off that too. My doc is being very conservative.
I now look forward to the future knowing that I'm improving my health and that I'm in a better position to fight off other family illnesses like coronary artery disease, etc.
In other news...my husband Rich who had surgery 8/5/2004 is down to 250 lbs at 6'5". His weight at his consultation a year ago was 450. So, as of today, he is in the Double Century Club.
Depending on how our weight loss goes in the next weeks... soon, both of us together will weigh what he weighed last year! Astounding!
Best wishes to my May sisters and brothers!

1/5 of the way is 20% already. I'm such a geek. I love to have fun with numbers and percentages and figure out ways to frame things so it makes it seem like I'm so far along.
Hubby and I are doing well. He is basically at goal. The doctor's goal for him was to lose 35% of his total body weight in a year. That puts him at 292 lbs (from 450). He is down to 250 in less than 11 months. He has extra skin but I don't think he has that much fat left. So, from here on out...him maintaining would be a good thing. He has found that if he eats carbs with meals...he maintains, if he just sticks to protein and vegies and not many carbs...he will still lose. Good to know the "secret" formula.
Thanks, Lori!
